We had a light rolling thunder with light rain before sunrise. In some places looking across into the neighbor's yard there are a few sparkles from lingering raindrops. The temperature is 69* but humidity makes it 97*.

A sign of fall. The low temperature at Saranac Lake, a cold spot in the Adirondack Mountains of New York State, was 38F (3C).

I took a trip today in the New York State Adirondack Moyntains to Old Forge, Inlet and slightly beyond. In the more open fields just before the foothills entire fields were yellow with blooming Goldenrod. In the Adirondacks leaf color was still minimal and delayed, although a couple of areas may have approached fifteen to twenty percent change. It was late afternoon and early evening and there were not as many people as I would have expected and most were wearing sweaters and jackets. Skies were overcast and there was occasional drizzle

I took pictures of a deer in the village of Old Forge, just at the curbside of Main Street, eventually crossing the street and causing a car to stop. On the trip back I saw another deer by the side of the and 2 more a short distance beyond that. Also by the side of the road I saw 3 different groups of wild turkeys with several in each group.

A correction on yesterday's high temperature. Actually the highest world temperature yesterday was at Furnace Creek (Death Valley) California 122F (50C).

The Southwestern part of the US and northwest Mexico are in the midst of a heatwave currently. The US Southwest has had an exceptionally hot summer. Furnace Creek recorded 130 (54C) on August 16.

It is starting to get cooler in the mornings, temp. in lower 70's. Soon it will be fall weather.

It's turned colder here earlier than usual - 52F at the moment, with periodic rain, but when the sun comes out it can still be quite warm.

Cloudy here but mild, about 19C, wow last night was the first night in months with no fire. But its going back to cold nights tonight.
