Today it is 25C, in Victoria Australia. A beautiful cool breeze, last night there was storms and lightening, all was good here but damage in other places.
We had pouring rain for like half an hour which all ran off, but take any we can get.
Making the most of it, it is so lovely to have the windows and doors open

Praise the Lord, we are having rain!

Down south a lot of rain is predicted but now lightning strikes are causing havoc, over 10,000 strikes and power failure and flash flooding. If you have been praying please keep doing so.

If anyone is interested in what takes out our trees up here in the PNW; the worst is what we see coming in the forecast for tonight--Friday am:

Detailed Forecast
Today
Rain likely, mainly before 10am. Snow level 1500 feet. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 42. South wind around 6 mph becoming west southwest in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Tonight:
A chance of rain or freezing rain before 10pm, then a chance of snow showers and freezing rain between 10pm and 1am, then a chance of snow showers after 1am. Snow level 1300 feet lowering to 400 feet after midnight . Mostly cloudy, with a low around 31. South southeast wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

The freezing rain sticks to the branches of the trees--and I'm talking about big trees--200 feet or more; in the fir trees and also the Oak trees. Then the snow sticks to the ice; then another layer of both. It can add up to thousands of lbs in a few hours. The fir trees can come down; but the worst is the big old Oak trees--that everyone loves and try's to save them; especially by their houses and in town; and all along our country roads. Oak trees are especially weak in their massive branches; and they are like iron in there weight.
Last February; from here in the country to Eugene; it looked like a war zone; with all the trees going thru cars and houses:

I pray for the people of Australia every night. I'll pray for more rain for Australia.

39F is our high for today. We've had a mix of moisture.

Well; the ice and snow storm forecast for the PNW didn't show up; apparently because the jet stream went further north; in to Canada; good news for us.
We got plenty of rain; but the temp today is to be a balmy 50F; later today. Right now it's:

I had no idea that freezing rain and snow could have such an effect, mnorian. Thanks for letting us know. Between you, in the PNW, and our friends in Australia you seem to be coping with some extreme weather.

Here in the UK it has turned cooler, with a slight frost, but it is dry and very still.

I was surprised myself how bad it could get

Before we moved here to the Eugene area; we lived on the Oregon coast; 7 miles inland; and the ocean moderates the weather; so it normally never gets lower then 50F in the winter to maybe 70-80F in the summer; and usually stays around 60-70F.

It does have it's storms, fog, and lots of rain; but that is what I liked about it.

I've been told by a UK resident; that the Oregon coast's weather is a lot like the UK's. Maybe that's why I took to it so well; seeing as my ancestors; are from Scotland, Ireland, and England.

Another beautiful day today. Summer is properly here now.

Oh; I thought; as we are in the middle of our winter; and NZ is in the other hemisphere (southern) that you would be in the middle of your summer; thus all the heat in NZ and OZ.

Or does NZ have more of a colder climate then OZ?

Yes, New Zealand remains cooler than Australia, usually. We have had a stuttering sort of start to summer this year, with rain and wind and cool temps. Some of us loved it! Including me. February is usually the hottest month for us, but January can rival it. About now, I start the countdown to autumn.

New Zealand is further south and a lot cooler and wetter than us. More like England
@joyshirley ?
We do have temperate areas, but also desert and tropical. A lot of the heat down south fanning the bushfires comes from hot winds from the central desert and lack of rain and hotter temperatures. Tasmania, our southern island state is a lot more like NZ.
38.4° is the hottest I could find for NZ.
Where I live in Queensland 35-42C is normal summer temps and we are still a long way from the outback. 50.7 at Oodnadatta is our hottest record.

Just in addition, it is 5.37am and the news reported heavy rain is subduing fires in Victoria.
Answered prayers surely
Now we are being told storms and possible flash flooding.
