  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What's the weather like where you are? (10)

Rooftops looked like they'd been iced. My neighbour's evergreen tree appeared to have been sprinkled with caster sugar, the cobbles on the garden seemed to be frosted and the crocus were shooting up through a blanket of white. It snowed today!
:sohappy:
I'm like a kid when it snows, but if we have it cold and wet we might as well have it looking pretty too. :D However it didn't settle on the roads, so hopefully no disruption to traffic.

I imagine you must have had it too today, mp? :)

Joining in prayers for Australia in the heat, and NZ that they will not suffer from it, and for Phoebe Ann and others who are suffering from the extreme cold. :groupray:
Yes! It has arrived! Cold, icy, and covering everything. Snow everywhere, I will have to take some pictures later...:)

:D Yes, I've gathered over the years here in CF that our idea of hot and cold temps varies greatly from what Americans consider hot and cold. *nods* But we (my family and I) simply couldn't stand the sort of heat you get over there, mnorian. :help: In the meantime, the forecasters are promising a drop in temps by the weekend. Hope they have that right! ^_^

Hope so!

After living on the coast of Oregon for over 30 years and then moving inland to the hot summers; I was laughing at myself at what I used to think was hot--anything over 75F--even now after 8 years in the Eugene area; my comfort zone is from 60F to 85F. So the 27F -3c we have right now is too cold.:bbrr:

Just looked at the forecast on the NWS and it said of the cold hitting the eastern US:
Very Dangerous and Life-Threatening Arctic Blast
One of the coldest arctic air mass intrusions in recent memory is surging south into the Upper Midwest before spreading across much of the eastern two-thirds of the country. Through late week, expect frigid temperatures, bitterly cold and life-threatening wind chills, likely leading to widespread record lows and low maximum temperatures from the Upper Midwest to the Great Lakes and Ohio Valley.:bbrr::bbrr::bbrr::bbrr::bbrr::bbrr::bbrr::bbrr::bbrr::bbrr::bbrr:

It's 37F and fair here in Central Oklahoma. I'm praying for those facing the extreme cold.

Your pictures are always so good mp! :)

I was going to say that it's cold here (the remaining snow is frozen) but then I saw pictures of Chicago on the news. Some of you guys in North America seem to be having it very tough at the moment with the Artic Blast. Keep warm and :prayer: for you.

Love your description of the snow over there, Sue. It sounds so lovely. :)

Thanks, Sue and others, for prayers for us here in NZ. There are quite a few people in NZ who are saying things like, "It's just summer! Not a heat wave! This isn't news!" etc, but for many, if not most NZers, high 20s and low 30s celcius is too hot. :D There was a time when I found 24C too hot. Now it sounds almost cool. ^_^

Thanks js! I love the snow as we have it in the UK, but not what America and Canada are going through right now! As for hot temps I agree that high 20s/low 30s are too hot and I think most British would regard 30s+ as a heat wave. I suppose our countries are used to the moderating effects of the sea. BTW do you get cold air coming up from the Antarctic in summer. I think you said that you had strong winds in spring; do they ever cool NZ in the summer? :)

Just watched CNN and it's as bad as it was in the 50s in Minnesota; when we had -65 below zero (not with the wind effects) The town of Benson had their airport register -62F; here the story about other states also in the north midwest;

Snow squalls bringing near-whiteout conditions to Northeast - CNN
I've just read the link. That is COLD! So sad that people have died. Those temps must shut down normal life to a great extent. I hope that everyone's central heating keeps working.

I hear you, mnorian. My preferred temp range is narrow: 16C to 24C or thereabouts. Stay warm! :)

Hi, Sue :)

No, they don't. Not so as I've noticed. Wish they did, frankly. :D We had some decent breezes happening last week - lovely. Then this week, with the heat, not a breath of wind. :sigh: ^_^

Those wind chills are brutal here, too. But this warm weather that's coming is CRAZY. It's -8F now. On Monday, it's supposed to be 54F and raining.

Firefighters are having a tougher time because the ice on their uniforms is adding extra weight. Please pray. It's -2F now and, thankfully, will not get colder than that tonight.

It's 54F and mainly cloudy today in Central Oklahoma. Those facing severe cold are still in my prayers.
