a question which probably cannot be answered with a simple, single description of a chronological measurement.

You might hear many different answers.

but remember, the lesson was more important than the etymology of existence or man.

I agree.

I ask this because if you hold the view that the second genesis story fits into the first genesis story then you must have some concept of how long a "day" is in genesis. The easiest measure of this would be the amount of time from Adam's creation to there exile because that is supposed to have happen in a Biblical "day".

I've never heard the theory that it was only a day from the time of Adam's creation to Adam and Eve's banishment. Do you have a link? Thanks!

How long was it from Adam's creation to his and Eve's exile?

No bloody cue.. and sadly.. we aren't given a direct date...

However.. it had to be "a good amount of time" .. there was a lot going on.. before the fall...

God Bless

No.. there is no mention that the time from creating man.. and man falling.. is a "day"...

No mention of that at all.. on the 6th yom.. God made man... on the 7th God rested.. no mention of the "fall" in any of that happening...

We also see that God was "active" on the yom that Man fell.. as such.. it would have to have been no earlier then the 8 yom of Creation...

Which would make it 2 yoms.. maybe.. depending on what point in the 6th yom that God made man.. IE: early in the yom or later in the yom.. which would have bearing and impact on the whole scheme of things..

Hope this clears up that point for you.

God Bless

I presume that this is aimed at those who believe Genesis 1 & 2 to each be historically accurate 'literal' accounts. (Because to those who don't, the question is rather meaningless.)

Hey DarkProphet,

Wait, why is this exactly?

The easiest measure of this would be the amount of time from Adam's creation to there exile because that is supposed to have happen in a Biblical "day".
Is there a specific verse you are interested in?

Cheers!

Even biblical scholars vary on their opinions. There's no way to come up with a conclusive answer. Some scholars believe that a day meant an era -- possibly even corresponding to millions of years.

Think about Genesis 1...

1. Void

2. No form for the planet, but it existed

3. Water covered everything on the planet

4. Division of light from darkness

5. Atmosphere established between surface water and cloud -- oxygen for breathing and supporting life.

6. Dry land surfaces, out of water covering (shifts in crust, volcanoes rising, water evaporating, possibly earth expanding as its gravitational core weakens.)

7. Vegetation takes hold

8. Lights surrounding the planet (yes, this is an odd egocentric order, but with such a predominance of water, the cloud layer would have covered them anyway). Big bang starts with us...erm...

9. Animal life

10. Reproduction (1:24)

11. Man

It's very similar to the order that scientists estimate, with the exception of the rest of the universe arriving after the planet Earth.

"Supposed" by whom? Scripture doesn't say that the creation of Adam and the fall happened on the same day.

We simply don't know how much time elapsed between creation and the fall. However, it was likely not very long, since God had told them to "be fruitful and multiply", but they hadn't had any kids yet.
