What's so bad about the Book of Mormon?

And that is just why I ignore some questions.
They aren't really question at all..... just a hunger that is yet to be filled.

Asking you why you, personally, feel we need to have someone speak for us to God is just a hunger that needs to be filled? Really? You are so adverse to honest back and forth discussion yet so ready to cast blame that it boggles my mind. You seem to have no real sense of what discussion entails, yet are so quick to point fingers. Shame.

JS did not live in the Jacobean era (that was 200 years prior). If that were the standard then all of Joseph Smith's writings would use Jacobean English.

Nah, Joseph was just trying to make it sound KJ-ish.

Doth thou notst agreeth, verily ??

"Standard of the day" as far as theological works go.

Baloney. I have read thousands of pages from theological works at that time period (ThM and PhD in historical theology) and the Jacobean era and you are wrong.

Here is Charles Finney Systematic Theology 1851... not KJV-ish at all.

Here is Jonathan Edwards (1703-1758) "The Manner in Which the Salvation of the Soul is to be Sought"

I can provide others. Your point is not substantiated.

===

PS Both Edwards and Finney ministered in the region where Joseph Smith started Mormonism.

This thread topic is not about me... it is about a book.

Yes, it is about a book. But you felt the need to make inaccurate disparaging comments about other people. You brought it up, so that gives me permission to follow it.

Why not focus on the topic and rather than the person?

Perhaps someone else has already pointed out the Elephant in the room and I missed it.

There is significant criticism of the Bible when it comes to the lack of evidence that the Jews ever were slaves in Egypt.

But at least there is evidence that there were Jews and that Egypt existed. Both exist to this day.

Book of Mormon speaks of prophets and peoples where there is still no evidence that they ever existed. It has animals in the new world that were introduced far later.

The evidence is overwhelming.

The danger to Christianity is clear, more and more people will decide the problems in Scripture will indicate the Bible is more of the same.

That is not true, even from a secular unbelieving stance, the Bible is a true historic record of at least the beliefs of real groups. But when books sit in the same section of the library shelfs they come to be thought of as the same sort of thing.

Interesting observation.

Might want to bone up on your archaeology, then.

Here's one place to start, with another on the same site.

Individual bits and pieces have been surfacing for a while now; it's not the "100% overwhelming" proof that most critics are after, but it does lend an air of plausibility to at least certain elements.

Here's another link:

Apostle John A. Widtsoe said:
The spot chosen for the Garden of Eden was Jackson County, in the state of Missouri, where Independence now stands; it was occupied in the morn of creation by Adam and his associates, who came with him for the express purpose of peopling this earth. (Journal of Discourses, 10:235)

Note also: Noah's Ark built in or near Carolina.

I'm curious. Why did you not ask Norah that when she was the one who initiated the OT criticism?

Yea, that is a totally respectable archaeology site.

NOT.

Pretty much proving my point.

Book with such a treasure of truth. Really can find no bad with it myself.
Speaks of Jesus our Lord and redeemer.
Don't believe I have initiated anything against the old testament.
Please don't read into things more than the actual words given.

smh

Even 2 Nephi 5:21 ???

And he had caused the cursing to come upon them, yea, even a sore cursing, because of their iniquity. For behold, they had hardened their hearts against him, that they had become like unto a flint; wherefore, as they were white, and exceedingly fair and delightsome, that they might not be enticing unto my people the Lord God did cause a skin of blackness to come upon them.

I'm curious. Why did you not ask Norah that when she was the one who initiated the OT criticism?

Because her comment was not about a person.

She has focused on the validity of the questions themselves. The contents of a post are fair game. The attributes of the poster are not. Posts that rely on attacking the person instead of the argument or statement that was made are an indication to me that there is nothing significant to offer in rebuttal.

Actually, it was. It was about Calvin doing in Servius (Servetus).

No, she didn't focus on the validity of the questions themselves, she judged the heart of the people asking questions, many of which were seriously asked questions. If she doesn't want negative feedback, she should both stick to the topic and not judge why people ask questions.
