I'm depressed. I HATE my TV! HATE IT! Whoever invented it hates me! I was able to watch Xfinity for a while, now I can't. I'm in my late seventies, can't drive and only have accesss to the world on the internet and sometimes not even the internet. My daughter stays extremely busy, goes out of town a lot and has a busy social life. Life is insane!
I used to pray: "God make my life a little light within the world to glow."
Now I'm just a mess.
You sound like me ... I have the ability to do so, but I don't want to talk into the remote.

Yes. Those were the days!
But those old tvs were kind of dangerous, too, if the tubes got overheated.
When I was young, we had a tv that caught on fire inside ...
Envision this:
My parents both carrying the hot, smoking tv out of our house and onto our front porch in the middle of the nite ... while waiting for the Fire Department to arrive!
Porch floor got burned up abit, and down in the basement under the porch, too ... but at least there was no damage to the interior rooms of the house. We did live with the yucky smell of smoke for awhile, down in the basement. We didn't have fancy room air filters back then ... our 'air filters' were the open windows! lol

You're so kind! I'm definitely not technologically astute. I don't even have a smart phone! My neighbors aren't friendly. But my daughter is coming on Thursday. And I bought her an out of this world gift that I can't imagine her not loving. And I'm sure I'm the second oldest person on this street. The lady next door is so old I never see her outside. I think she's in her eighties.That's a nice prayer!
I think we all become "messes" eventually.
Do you have a technologically astute neighbor who might help you with the cable problem? We don't have cable so I'm of no help. Does the cable box connect to the tv, or the cable itself? There appears to be an app for xfinity. Maybe one of these links might help you.

It is the only part of pet ownership that I do not like. Cuz it's just so hard to let go, and say 'goodbye'.It's hard, isn't it? We've been there several times and it never gets easier. We have three cats. They're wonderful company (when they choose to be!). Our last two that passed died of old, old age. One was 21.

I'm sure there's probably a forum for this, but not really finding what I was looking for, I'll ask the question here. After all, this is the "What's On Your Mind" topic, everyone here is sharp and helpful with answers, and it's been nagging at my mind for quite a while now!
Is it okay to say "no" at church? And what's the best way to do it?
The background: Someone in a partly volunteer/partly paid position left the church a while back. Folks seem to expect me to step into the position. I'm not interested, although I've helped out in the past. I have, in the past, also let it be known to several members that I'm not at all interested. I feel like I'm being pushed (maybe too strong a word) and feel guilty-ish because there's probably no one else inclined to do it. At the same time, I volunteer in other activities and positions, while various other members don't. And though I'm retired, I also have personal responsibilities that take precedence, sometimes 3-4 days a week, and have a husband who I want to spend more time with as we're both advancing in age, while some others are retired, single and have more time to do whatever they please.
I guess I'm in a quandary. I've prayed about it, I need and want to say "no", but I don't want to be surly about it (also not a good word, but you get the picture). I feel very frustrated. Help?

Yes, it's okay to say 'no' at church.
Because I believe we 'report' first to the Lord, and then to our husbands (if married).
Howzabout one of these:
"I'm sorry, but I won't be able to help this time. I've prayed about it and I need to say 'no'."
(And if you're not 'sorry', you can drop that part!)
This one might be more effective:
"I won't be able to help this time. I've prayed about it and I need to say 'no'. And my husband agrees."
(... or something along that line.)
Oftentimes, the simple truth is the best way. And if anyone has a problem with the truth, that's 'on' them.
(And you really don't owe anyone any further explanation as to why you are saying 'no'.)
