  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What's on your mind?

I direct you all to a tidbit of wisdom I believe a fellow member has given this morning. Let it be remembered throughout our day today as we go about it (although having just come off of the night shift mine will be ending soon, personally).

Also, just thought I would share a brief moment of fellowship I had with an opossum and a stray cat as I was on my way to the laundry room across the parking lot to the set of apartments where I live an hour ago.

As I neared the room, I look down to see the opossum a few yards away just sort of quickly walking away but not scurrying, in that same way you walk more quickly from a stranger you've noticed appear near you in the night but you don't want to break into a full run and possibly drive him to chase you, giving away that you are afraid of him. ^_^ I just went, "s'up, dawg", and walked a few more steps before the local stray cat I often see hanging around the premises (I guess one of my neighbors keeps him fed) was seen scurrying away directly in front of me and around the opposite side of the laundry room that the opossum walked around. So without even thinking I finished my earlier sentence, somewhat uncertainly "... and cat." I mean, I figure that since this actually was a cat and I said dawg (like "dog") earlier, it just kind of seemed appropriate in two different ways. =P

Speaking of opossum, I often here people speak of them as awful pests, almost on the level of ... those we do not speak of (okay, cockroaches) ... but I don't see it. This one seemed pretty chill to me. I just never felt fear of them or anything. Do they communicate diseases easily or something? I don't remember learning about them in particular during zoology class. It seems people look at them in the same way as they do rats and mice, though.

I was just wondering, a bit preemptively since pets are not allowed in Chateau Apartments where I live now, but, do you all suppose a pug would suit a guy like me for a canine companion, if I somehow pass up on a cat?

I admit, one of my favorite movies ever as a child was The Adventures of Milo and Otis, so .... ^_^

Strangely, my homeboy Lantis has said often that he thinks pugs are ridiculously ugly. I personally find their faces a pleasant kind of cuteness. But personality-wise, it almost feels like a Golden Retriever would be a better match for me. Whenever I am finally accepted to Canada and establish a new home there, maybe it will finally be time for me to take on a pet, dog or cat. I have not had one for myself since I was a child of 14, when the last of the pets my family had, a tubby calico cat named Sneakers, unfortunately ran away while we were out of town, and likely died somewhere in the wooded area nearby. :( During Sneakers' time I remember I also had a Cocker Spaniel named Nikki, a pot-bellied miniature pig named Hamilton, and a hamster when I was really little named Hampton, but they all died before Sneakers. Unless you count my mother's two dogs she took on after I grew up and went to college, Dutch and Tallulah the rescue mongrel dogs, those are the only pets I really remember, and technically they weren't mine since I lived apart from my mother for all of that time except the past three years I was in Houston, and Dutch died way back at Christmas 2011.

Weird how I only had Sneakers from 4 to 14, and seeing her as a kitten getting teeth pulled by a veterinarian when we first got her was the reason I wanted to be an animal doctor when I grew up all the way until about halfway through college, when I realized that, my somewhat decrease in passion for domesticated animalkind just wasn't going to suit me for such a seemingly prestigious career path (aside from my grades). I don't think I really loved Sneakers more than I did Nikki, Hampton, or Hamilton, really, but she was the last survivor of our pets when I was a child and for some reason I still have dreams about her being alive to this day, over the other pets.

When you suddenly notice a mistake in a story you posted over a year ago... o_O I'm looking through the episodes of my series, and in one part of episode 19 it said "Mast Greblai" instead of "Master Greblai", lol. It's fixed now!

That's cute, haha. I never really saw opossums before until where I moved recently. I think they are actually cute. I hear that they are very good for getting rid of some pesky bugs, like ticks. :)

If you like the.... "dog" dont worry about if anyone else likes it or not or if it "suits" you, just do your homework on the animal and make an informed choice not a spur of the moment thing cause you "want one".

Me I dont see why anyone would pass up having a cat for a "dog" that's the size or smaller of a cat... but that's just me. I'm a cat and dog person but have never cared for smaller breeds.
