  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What's on your mind?

Weird dream show-and-tell time!

*moves to the front of the class and clears throat*

A few nights ago I had one of those extended dreams that seem to go one for two or three hours of real-time - in the waking world, I mean.

I was back in a school that was very similar in layout to my elementary school back in South Carolina, where I had attended from second to fifth grade. For some reason, I and maybe half the other people in my class were clearly in our early twenties, but we were learning some grade-school type stuff. This went on for a while in a classroom and it was clear I had established a personality of being one of the, for lack of a better term, "cool" guys, and a wiseacre and smart-aleck, but apparently a likable one, and I seemed to have connections with just about everybody in the school, knowing all their names and everything. So I guess I was like that character Mike Damone from Fast Time At Ridgemont High, except not a jerk. ^_^

The rest of the people in the school were of the appropriate age, though. Anywhere from 6 to 11 or so. I remember seeing this girl from real life I had known in the fifth grade named Mandy Waite. She was cute and freckle-faced, and very tiny for even out age. I never thought about this IRL, but apparently in the dream I lamented not having responded positively when she used to chase me around the playground all of the time, and instead chose to give my affections to ... Beth Murff, just because she was "smart" and excelled at everything. (Jeez, SK, you made bad choices back then.) She was near to me a lot of the time in the dream, and still looking matched with my age (in the 20's) there, and I remember looking at her with some kind of slightly remorseful fondness, like I had missed out a lot long ago as a ten year-old with her in fifth grade - even though in the dream we were still clearly in some manner of grade school. But back in the 5th grade IRL, I don't think Mandy was chasing me around all the time because she had come to that point of finally liking the opposite gender before I got to the point of liking girls and finally no longer thinking they were aliens with dangerous bacterial touches. ^_^ I think she just wanted to tease me for still not being certain I liked girls yet. At the time I myself wasn't sure of why I even liked Beth Murff, yet, as though I hadn't even figured out for 100% certain she was a girl.

But that whole missed romance with Mandy Waite was not the most peculiar part of the dream. Once the day ended I appeared to have some unusual trouble even making my way out of the school, backpack filled with tons of textbooks and needed homework and all, almost like it was my own little adventure. In the hallway near the entrance - where in my IRL grade school there was a huge lengthwise window facing the inner courtyard - I came across a group of the students who actually looked the age of elementary school kids unlike myself and some others, and ... apparently my school allowed for cosplay dress. Because one of the little girls with short brunette hair was clearly dressed in one of Sakura Kinomoto's hero costumes. Like, as much as a Cardcaptor Sakura fan I consider myself, and especially of the heroine Sakura herself, I have maybe seen the series two or three times in all, and I really shouldn't remember anything as specific as one of the outfits Sakura's fashion-conscious friend Tomoyo decks her out in when she goes off to have magical duels with errant spirits wreaking havoc in town. But in the dream, I certainly did this one. "What's up, Sakura?" I said indulgently as I passed by the girl, and she beamed appreciatively like "oh, good, you totally understood the look I was going for. No one else did."

15_zpsaqgbjod0.jpg

... I am actually mildly surprised that this isn't already a normal thing in Japan, where people attend every day allowed to dress up as some character from anime.

By the way, next election, I am voting Sakura for President.

On my way out of school, I went about my normal Mike-Damone-esque business of ... well ... conducting business with fellow students, until finally I walked out front when evening was beginning to fall and hardly anyone else was around.

IRL in grade school I walked home from there, crossing one busy road right in front of the school and just a block or two into the neighborhood on the other side before reaching my house. There is always a crossing guard there to help the small lot of us who go that way, of course, but in the dream, she was missing.

The only people I saw, were the girl in the Sakura battle costume and an older blond-headed girl who apparently was her older sister. The little girl was being dragged bleeding out of the street by the older, crying for help, and I ran through the front yard of the school as fast as I could to them. I don't remember what it was that the older sister said had hurt the little girl in the Sakura outfit, but, rescuing knight that I am, I took action. Apparently some bikers had already gone by them on the sidewalk in the direction of Boiling Springs (a small IRL city near mine at the time) just before I reached them, and ignored the older sister's pleas, just continuing on. In the panic of the moment, I didn't know what to do but get the little girl to my house to call for an ambulance or something (apparently this dream was back in a time when cell phones hadn't been invented yet), and so I swept her up in my arms like

and ran alongside her frantic but grateful sister back to my house in the nearby neighborhood. But somehow, it's like we knew there was a definite timer on the little Sakura cosplayer's life, and could know exactly how much time there was remaining until her blood loss would become fatal. But unfortunately there were suddenly all these strange obstacles in the way back to the house where we could call for medical help (why not anywhere else along the way, right? I know), that I really can't even describe, definitely making it more difficult to surpass with my arms full carrying the little girl. It was almost like it's own little RPG adventure going from one town on the overworld map to the next, just getting to my house two blocks away from the school, let us just say. But being Sarah's Knight in that dream, I was, I guess. A fierce and determined rescuer. ^_^

And then once we got there the dream got all kinds of crazy from there, going to an entirely different world and time from I had been for seemingly hours. But best as I can remember it, one of the girls - either the little Sakura cosplayer or the older sister - became this character who looked a lot like Deedlit from Record of Lodoss War, and I sort of turned into this generic human warrior guy she was leading on an infiltration mission into the heart of this evil empire comprised mostly of her violent and barbaric elven people. ... And then some stuff happens, and I am not sure whether I am actually the human hero protagonist guy or myself just watching his exploits in this anime on TV in the living room of my deceased maternal grandparents' old house in Chattanooga, because I seem to kind of keep switching perspectives there. But, yeah. Just kind of kept going, the dream. These kinds always feel like they are lasting for literally hours, even though in reality probably as little as fifteen minutes or so pass by in the waking world.

There have been numerous tribes that ate only meat and a few vegetables and were very tall and healthy. This can be sustained long term of course check with your doctor to make sure you aren't one of those people with a rare condition where you can't handle being in ketosis.

The United States is currently re-assessing a 3-decade, uncontrolled experiment in which carbohydrates were lauded and fats demonized. Concurrently we have become one of the most obese countries in the world. And across the globe, tragically, indigenous peoples with historically low carbohydrate intakes now have extremely high prevalence rates of obesity and type-2 diabetes (e.g., the Gulf States in the Middle East, Pacific Islanders, First Nations in Canada, and Australian Aborigines). What these observations suggest is that for many humans, from an evolutionary perspective, a high carbohydrate diet is a metabolic challenge that some find difficult as early as adolescence and many fail to meet in the middle years of life. Equally apparent is that these negative effects of a high carbohydrate intake can be forestalled or reduced by vigorous exercise, high intakes of micronutrients and/or fiber from vegetables and fruit, avoidance of simple sugars, and constant energy restriction. For many of us with severe obesity, metabolic syndrome, or overt type-2

diabetes, however, these ‘healthy lifestyle’ choices are not enough to fully counteract the negative effects of a substantial contribution of carbohydrate to our daily energy intake. This condition, in which a collection of diseases characterized by insulin resistance are driven by consumption of a single nutrient class, deserves to be identified as “carbohydrate intolerance”. And as with other single nutrient intolerances (e.g., lactose, gluten, fructose), the preferred intervention is to reduce one’s dietary intake below the threshold level that produces symptoms.- The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate living.

Watching a Joe Rogan Podcast with a guest by a guy named Howard Bloom. I've known him for a while now. He's a man in his 70s who claims to do hundreds of pushups every morning and makes a lot of outrageous claims. Like how he accidently started the counter cultural revolution in the 1960s single handedly.

The ability to sustain such a low intake of carbohydrate indefinitely is synonymous with eating higher than usual amounts of fat for a long, long time. To be able to do this, the right types of fat need to be emphasized (discussed in Chapter 16) and the individual needs to live in a supportive social and clinical sphere. If the individual is constantly told by family, doctor, or dietitian that eating a high fat diet is dangerous, only the most curmudgeonly among us will succeed. Even if you are not convinced about the absolute safety of a well formulated low carbohydrate diet, we ask you to consider these two choices: a) remain overweight on insulin and taking two oral drugs while your fasting blood glucose remains above 200 mg/dl (11 mM) and you develop early microalbuminuria, or b) lose weight and have normal blood sugars and normal kidney function without drugs by forgoing most dietary carbohydrate long-term. What unknown risk potentially associated
with the latter (i.e., a well formulated, moderate protein, high fat diet) can outweigh the likelihood of becoming a blind amputee on dialysis associated with the former?-Low Carbohydrate Living

For me personally I decided to be a normal weight and accept I am in the class of people who can't tolerate carbohydrates. Keto isn't for everyone but for me if I have to choose between the risks of diabetes and keto i'll choose keto. But this is something that you need to do research on yourself and talk to your doctor to see if this could be a reasonable option.

I don't understand what you're talking about!

It's just saying if someone is in a situation where they have type 2 diabetes, they can keep taking medication and risk amputation or they can try keto.

It's also discussing how some people are carbohydrate intolerant.

Didn't know that was a thing. Lol.

All I know is that when you diet you cut calories.

The issue isn't so much calories as it is what your body does with those calories. Does it convert them to fat? People who eat whatever they want but don't get fat, their body doesn't turn those calories into fat. For people who are unlucky their body turns those calories into fat and stores them for safe keeping. So calories aren't the issue, what your body does with them is the real issue. Everyones body is different.

Thought to lose weight you simply eat less calories than your body burns in a day.. and instead your body burns the fat already stored in your body to compensate.

A good diet is eating around 1200 to 1500 calories a day.
