How long have you felt this way?

You may not feel happy, but you do have His Joy right?

I have felt this way for years, to be honest... I just usually hide it. As for His joy, I am not sure how to answer that. I see God's beauty every day and it makes me smile. However, when things do not go as planned, I tend to question Him, even though I know I shouldn't. "God is good all the time and all the time God is good."

Also, since I called you Miss Vanilla, that brings two things to mind:

1) Are you cool with me addressing you formally like that sometimes?

2) I suddenly remember a lady in our midst long ago whose avatar name was Vanilla Ice Cream (not to be confused with the ice cream that they were obviously alluding to in that awful Selena Gomez song ), and I addressed her as Miss Vanille ... similar to @VanillaLion , but with an e at the end. Lovely girl, really, and I think she'd actually left us to become a nun. I hope she is doing well in such a new chapter and mode of life as that.

I skimmed the OP. But when I read the hermit’s reply I looked again and was shocked. I thought it was tongue in cheek. He needs prayer.
