That's so cool. I don't care what people might think, cooking over fire is an art. Done right, you know.

Absolutely. Chef’s Table is a great series on Netflix. They’ve profiled some wonderful people. Definitely up your alley!

Is anyone here bilingual?

My Dutch would be a LOT better if it wasn't for the Dutch locals switching to English as soon as they pick up on my accent.

I used to talk to an ex girlfriend in Gujarati if we didn't want surrounding friends to hear our conversation. A very limited amount though.

Oh, and I can speak Australian too. I mean, they call it English, but we all know it isn't.

How did you pick it up?

I took 4 years of Spanish in high school. I can read it pretty well but have a hard time understanding it spoken other then words & phrases. Just need to expose myself more to it, maybe?

I hope Warner Bros decides to release Zack Snyder's Justice League on Blu-ray. I'm hearing great reviews and we finally get to see Zack Synder's original vision for his film and not someone else's botched attempt.
First I heard HBO Max only. Then theaters & HBO Max. Then Blu-Ray too. I have no idea what it's coming out on at this point.

Conversation is best. There are numerous groups online you can practice with. Here’s some resources. He’s an expert.

I have Dutch in-laws who don't necessarily speak the best English. They're of a particularly native speaking generation, and have lived in a small 'no name' town for pretty much their entire life. I've spent a lot of time over there so I've gradually picked things up over the years. My Brother in-law's cousin speaks NO English at all.

Of course, when you head into Amsterdam it's of no practical use at all because everyone speaks English. But if you're straddling the Dutch/German border then it's extremely handy to have your Dutch down. Not even the young generation will speak English and things can get really awkward VERY fast. (What would you think if I said "slagroom" to you? LOL)

My brother in-law (sister's husband) speaks fluent English, German and Flemish. Which is handy because my German is absolutely shocking. I think my Korean is better actually.

If you stay in a country long enough (or regularly enough) you'll pick things up really fast. There's no replacement for actually being there.

I'm pretty bored this evening and daylight savings is messing with me. Why can't politicians accept all the evidence for why daylight saving time is a horrible, horrible idea? There's talk in Ontario of making it permanent. That would mean kids would be walking to school in the dark at 8am in December and January. Insane nonsense.

You're overseas. Makes sense.

So you speak Dutch, English, & Korean? Wow.

How is it not permanent? Isn't it something they either do it or they don't?

*raises hand* I also speak German. Though not very fluently at the moment. I'm out of practice.

I took 4 years of Spanish in high school. I find I can still read it pretty well. Hearing, I can only understand words & phrases. Was never that good at speaking it.

I'm trying to get better at the hearing part.

Permanent meaning it would stay all year round and not stop in November to allow sunrise to happen at a non-insane hour during the winter. A 9am sunrise is simply insane. There's no other word for it.

How'd you pick it up?

It was my first language as a child. I learned German before I ever learned English. And since you're probably going to ask next whether I'm from Germany, no I'm not. lol I was born outside Canada, though.

I'm trying to get better at the hearing part.

Definitely watching some Spanish-language shows could help with this. Gran Hotel is a good show to watch, as long as you like period dramas. It's a bit soapy, but nothing too bad.

Good to see you back, Miss Isaiah. :)

Hehe, thanks! I took a bit of a break from CF because I was getting slightly obsessive about checking threads and reading replies.

I know, right! She's been gone a week!!
Oh, I thought it'd been at least a month since I last saw her.

Right, I had recalled you announcing that you intended to do that, and so I figured I should welcome you back properly as any knight would do for a well-respected lass who's returned from her spiritual journey. :idea1:

LOL No, I was only gone a week and a day.

You sure it's me you're thinking of, and not Sampa? She's fasting CF/social media for Lent, I believe. She really has been gone for a month!

I loooooove this show! Watched all the episodes when I had Netflix. Some of the chefs have bizarre ideas, but a lot of them are fantastic and their food looks so delish.

Oh, yes, you're right. I believe I had you confused with Miss Sampa. My apologies, Isaiah.

So please allow me to attempt to make up for that by giving you this knight's welcome back gesture =>

When she left for a while, I thought she had come here to post for advice about her crush, and then left again once she'd gotten what she wanted. :sorry:

That was my original intention, tbh. But I kinda got hooked on the community here and reading the Controversial Theology forum. Can't stay away. lol
