May I ask some of the more fixer-upper inclined folk here.
.... I admit, this is mostly just my obsessive-compulsiveness with cleanliness when it comes too seeing roaches, but that incident when I first noticed the filthy bathroom last night just really alienated me from feeling at all at home here. I mean, that's kind of an intimate place, one's bathroom, you know? And I feel sick just thinking of ever showering in there, regardless of how much I cleaned the floor and tub, but ... I digress.
Does anyone have a suggestion as to putting a new coat of white on a porcelain tub? I mean, would it be as easy as just getting some spray paint or something without ruining anything? There are some nasty old spots here and there on it, anyway, so laying down some kind of new coat to cover it up seems good for helping me feel less icky about using it. There are also some rust spots on the brass doorknobs to nearly every door, or some of the paint has flecked off, as well. Any advice on how to clean or cover that up?
Also, how does one change out a shower head? Never even thought of doing that before in any place I have lived in, but this one is just some nasty old hand-held thingy that I would just find inconvenient to use.
.... Well, on the plus side, switching State Farm agents today was relatively quick and painless, with a friendly older lady helping me with the transfer, and it will be at least forty dollars less a month that i have to pay for even better coverage than in Houston. Also stopped by the apartment where Lantis informed me that his sister Kim was now living in the other end of the complex to say hello. She seems well, with a newborn daughter she named Ellowyn (I assume that's how it spelled, because it sounds so much like the character Eowyn from the Lord of the Rings movies

). She also mentioned that despite having the same setup apartment that I once had the previous time I lived in this complex ten years ago, she has seen only a few smaller roaches here and there, and not the huge disgusting water bugs that I saw making a hellish graveyard in the tub last night when i first arrived. So hopefully this is a good sign that i will not be seeing more of these hellspawn for the rest of my time there. I really need to call my landlady and ask her who she sent to clean out my apartment after the last person left, but to be honest I was seeing more and more evidence today during cleaning that the last person simply died in this place and it occurred at least a year ago if not more. I found her lease agreement still in her bedroom where the Silent Hill-ish hospital-like bed is and everything. Honestly I may just quickly clean the walls and floor of that room, move out the dresser for myself, and close it off permanently after putting my remaining belongings - that I ran out of room for putting up anywhere in the main room, that is - left in storage containers there. The room creeps me out a little, anyway, honestly. A pretty much permanently shut door like it's sealing away a mad scientist's room full of failed experiments, with a cheerful wallscroll over the door to keep up the decor at least should do just fine. I think I also found a good area in the kitchen for a computer setup, actually. It's more a dining area where there is actually a pretty decent old-timey-looking wooden table with chairs. I think with no other suitable desk/shelf and too much room taken up in the main room already for the tv and bookcase and couch and all, this table will actually do. It will do well to remind me of my first apartment out of school that was in this same complex from nine to ten years ago, too, as my PC setup actually for quite nicely in such a spacious kitchen when there was no room in the den. And with a huge wallscroll of the mighty alien-slaying warrior lady android KOS-MOS from the Xenosaga games (that was for you,
@Swan7
) hanging on the wall just above the computer setup to bless it and mark the territory here in the current apartment just like the first one, that will greatly help in feeling at home.
Well, I guess things will look up over time.
And that is my moving-back-to-small-college-hometown report for today. ^-^
