Pretty much everything is close on everything voted on in CA. But I don’t think spliting the state into three will help CA as a whole. It appears to be more out of political crap than anything else. California is a Democrat stronghold worth a whopping 55 electoral votes and many Republicans there feel that their vote there literally doesn't matter.
It's like a sibling rivalry where they draw a line in the middle of the yard and say, "This side is mine and that side is yours."

The way I heard it explained, the guy who came up with the idea thinks there are way too many people in California, so it's difficult for one government to cover as much space and as many people as California has. He believes it will run better splitting it into three states. From a political perspective though, he drew the lines so instead of one blue state, California will be three blue states, each with their own senators, giving them greater representation, and breaking up the population so it's easier to care for their needs.Pretty much everything is close on everything voted on in CA. I find it a humorous proposition and I overheard some strangers today shocked that it wasnt a joke. We will see what happens. But I have a feeling nothing will happen.
With those lines, it wouldn’t be three blue states though. Southern California would likely remain red as it has in the past - including the recent primary election last week. The way I heard it explained, the guy who came up with the idea thinks there are way too many people in California, so it's difficult for one government to cover as much space and as many people as California has.
