Please pray for my sake that I succeed on that language test tomorrow, everyone. If I do not do any better on it than the first time, well, it looks like I will be waiting a very, very long time to be invited to emigrate to Canada. According to my attorneys, even getting a provincial nomination from Ontario is not doable unless my CRS score is already at least 400, and I will not reach that number if I do not improve my scores on the reading and writing portions of that test pretty dramatically tomorrow. My hands appear pretty much tied at this point. Looks like a lot rides on this one test tomorrow.

Yeah, Canada is notorious for its strict immigration system. It really helps that we don't border a third world country like the US does.

Prayers your way, SarahsKnight.

It's not a shot at your country, the US really does have a problem with illegal immigration. Having a long and mostly undefended border with Mexico is one of the reasons why Trump got into office. If you want to illegally get into Canada, you'd have to go through the US first or become a stow away. There's no doubt that some will slip through the cracks but Canada's immigration system is based mostly on merit. The US's immigration system has a harder time keeping tabs on immigrants compared to Canada.

I've been to Mexico in both the rich and the poor areas. It's disgusting that people in the world live like the ones I met in the slums. One of my classmates even described the Mexican slums as like the Fallout games.

Is Mexico technically a 3rd world country? Thought it was a developing nation.

Don't know too much about it to be honest.. other than I find Hispanic women with Mexican accents cute. Lol.

In Mexico you have your rich areas and your poor areas. Cancun is considered one of the safest cities in Mexico and that's because it's very dependent on tourism. The police force there literally have a sixth grade education minimum and either have to take "Silver or Lead". The corruption there is atrocious. Coca-Cola is cheaper than fresh water as half their water supply is polluted and thus the leading cause of death in Mexico is diabetes. Half their electricity is free because that means the government will be able to broadcast their political propaganda to their people, even in the slums. As we rode on the bus, we saw military soldiers everywhere because they are at war with the drug cartels. Minimum wage is 50 Pesos a day (roughly $5 Canadian at the time). Child labor is very common in the markets since children have an easier time selling things than adults thanks to their cuteness and vulnerability.

It's a developing country but it's still a crappy place to live, hence why so many Mexicans are trying to get into your country hoping for a better life.

Why is America so great and almighty and Mexico so poor and corrupt?

A whole wide variety of factors both past and present. I guess the conditions of building a country were far more favorable to the Americans and Canadians than they were for the rest of the Americas.

Because we didn't add mexico to the united states:(

You guys did actually. You won a war against Mexico and gained much of the west coast as a result.

The Mexican Empire looked like this at their peak.

Yeah I meant if we took over the whole thing we wouldn't have to build a wall.

The Confederate States of America actually had plans of invading Mexico and possibly the rest of central America if they won the Civil War. Even if they did win, their agricultural economy still likely wouldn't be able to compete with the North's industrial economy in the end.

Come to think of it, the US relied more on industry and attracted a far greater talent pool from immigration compared to the rest of the Americas because the others relied heavily on mining and agriculture. I remember learning about Brazil in school and how they had a series of economic booms and busts with diamonds, rubber, sugar, and other things their tropical climate could produce.
