  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What's on your mind?

These really grossed me out as a kid. It didn't help that my sister and her friend would pretend that the green ketchup was snot while I was eating.
The green one always grossed me out, too. I knew that it was ketchup, but couldn't bring myself to eat it.

So, I finally decided to grow out my hair and beard. Go full Viking. I'm intrigued to see what it would look like.

Omm: I wonder if Katy Perry's saved. If you ever listened to her music when she was a Christian artist... I'm just saying that seems to be some legit stuff.

I wonder if you can apostate and be saved. (Some hold to the belief that once you believe you always believe, aka you "persevere" while others say you can be saved but leave the faith)

I wonder if I got saved as a young teen and just rebelled.

Wonderings wonderings, with all sorts of man's opinions on the matter, but no definate answers. I asked two pastor's I know questions like this recently, got two opposing answers. (No, I didn't include Katy Perry in the question :) )

All I'm saying is at this point in my walk I wouldn't be surprised if I saw Katy Perry (Hudson) in heaven. But then again I wouldn't be surprised if I didn't...

So how was everyones weekend? Mine was great but tiring.
I hear you. Sometimes we pack our weekends full and feel just as tired after they're done haha.
Today was really exhausting but still ended nicely and I had a bit of time to relax.
My dad made me smile today. He never notices clothes or any small detail actually complimented me on my new spring dress :) Picked a good one I guess haha

I think "once saved always saved" is a solid doctrine, and the main point from its critics that "so, what? You think you can just go back to living in sin right after you get saved because you can never lose your salvation again after that?! HUH?!" is a lame argument against it. Like that's even what people are thinking when they first get taught OSAS after becoming a believer in Christ. I certainly wasn't. It was just nice to know that I do not have to live in perpetual fear of walking a tightrope all the time with salvation for the rest of my life, if I reject the belief that you can "lose" your salvation again after sinning frequently enough or whatever.

Maybe Katy Perry is a believer who has backslidden by letting fame and beauty go to her head and maybe she will one day be led by the Spirit to renew her faith and dedication; maybe she actually is living a secret life as a believer in many ways for Christ that the rest of us cannot see while for whatever reason of her own - albeit I cannot imagine a legitimate reason why a consciously professing believer would - let's us only see the seemingly worldly idyllic pop-star side of her. .... Or maybe she never truly believed in Christ, but only claimed in so many ways that she did in her earlier life just to make her parents happy or something.

.... And maybe most of her music just sucks. =P

(Amendment to that snarky comment: Just so you know I'm not a hater, I did kind of like her "Wide Awake" song, and she does at least seem like a nice person in real life even if I don't like her work.)

But you know what? Let's just pray and hope for her in a respectful, non-judgmental way (not that I am claiming you were being judging or insulting, mind you, Cody; just saying this for all of us here), caring about Katy Perry the person rather than Katy the pop idol. When it comes down to it; she's a normal human being made by God and in need of His forgiveness and blessing just like the rest of us are. :)

Oh I'm not talking about OSAS. That's a 100% true doctrine.
What I was talking about was if people who truly believe will always believe. Because lots of Christians hold to the doctrine if you stop believing in Christ at some point that you "never truly believed in Jesus".

What Katy Perry is doing right now is a job and it is not her. She is part of a corporation and she has to do her part just like any of us do at work. Just because I grind steel all day does not mean I lost my Christian ways and its the same with this young girl, just because she is working and playing a part does not mean she has lost her salvation. Fact is if the part she was playing was played by somebody else who is not Christian I bet the part would be way dirtier like Madonna Lady Gaga produced but because she is a Christian the part has maintained a mild sex appeal message.

Hey James.

But no Katy no longer follows Christ, she's said so in interviews and such.

Also I'd like to say I'm in no way judging, just simply curious asto whether she is saved or not, whether I was saved when I was apostate, etc. - it all is sort of grouped into one thought.

I actually generally agree with that statement, but saying someone never truly believed in Jesus probably isn't the right wording. I would say more that there wasn't ever really a true repentance there. People can have emotional moments of sincerity for sure, but whether or not that actually translates into repentance is another thing entirely.
