  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What's on your mind?

Semester's ending. The time of year for e-mails like 'I know I missed half the course meetings and more than several assignments that are on the syllabus, but I really need to pass.' and 'I know I didn't do much homework, but can I get at least a B?'.

I miss Blockbuster.. the overpriced rentals.. worrying about returning the rentals on time to avoid added fees.. hoping they even have a copy of the film you're looking for..

Now we just have stupid on demand streaming..

I miss them purely out of nostalgia. In the late 90's and early 2000's My sister and I would walk down to a movie rental store called 'Leo's Video Max' and rent a movie on VHS. They always had a cat named Leo walking around the store as a mascot. When I was a kid, I figured that Leo was a pretty rich cat.

Doesn't sound sanitary. Imagine people finding little "surprises" in their VHS tape?

When they started selling things like popcorn and drinks, they couldn't keep him there anymore. It was a shame too. As I kid I thought this was a cool feature that made the store really stand out.

The best part about Blockbuster was the video games.

Renting video games there as a kid were such happy moments.

Yeah I remember renting a spiderman game, was so kewl!

Blockbuster saw to their own demise due to nothing more than greed.

Thats right boys and girls, Blockbuster had a legitimate chance to stomp netflix out of business.

They had a "pass" that allowed you to order movies/games online. They starting streaming videos as well.

You could "rent for free" any game, any movie. Go home watch/play it bring it (1-4 at a time depending on the service you signed up for) and replace them with a new one the same day even multiple times. PLUS they would mail you movies that you could return at the store for other movies/games (having up to 4 out at a time)

Yes, they had costs, but they had one thing netflix didn't. Storefronts.(At this time netflix's business was mostly mail with streaming not being a "big thing" yet.

Blockbuster had MANY people skipping past netflix and sticking with them because it was the bigger bonus (when Netflix began streaming so too did blockbuster. Blockbuster titles werent as numerous in the streaming department, but the other perks MORE than made up for it.

Blockbusters short sighted greed is why they collapsed and why Netflix prevailed. They could have driven their competitor under or merged and still maintained business. But that short sightedness caused them to raise prices and set rules half way through "the game" where customers had already signed up for the service only to be told "Nope you pay us this much money and you can take out 8 movies for the month" or some lame limitation. Without notice.

That is when they lost me 100%. Not my fault you werent willing to think out a plan for your company and you failed to plan that people would buy the plan and your movies wouldn't be available for rent as "new release" prices.

I was never a fan of Blockbuster but once they started that service I couldn't pass on it. When they changed the rules, I was done. I say good riddance.

Since when do big companies get greedy?!?!

Heresy I say, heresy!

Yeah it's only a matter of time until Netflix gets greedy imo. I'm waiting for it to hit.

So true! Netflix has become so disappointing even though I was never really into Netflix. They don't even have LION KING?!?!? lol seriously

and they come out with a bunch of "Netflix Originals" with 1 season. Before they even think to develop more seasons out of a solid show they just come out with MORE SHOWS that are 1 season. So I never end up watching any series except this one show called Greenleaf which is basically a show that blasts Christians and makes them out to be rapists and other kinds of nonsense. Oprahs behind it so I'm not surprised

I think its already hit TBH.

They have (to some extent) forsaken the mainstream movie titles for "originals" and more obscure or TV centered content rather than big movie licenses. Yeah, they get a "big name" here and there but outside of TV shows their movie side (unless you enjoy obscure documentaries or low budget films is lacking compared to before.

Not surprising (about the show). Things are getting more heated for Christians every day, especially the ones with conservative/fundamentalist type views like myself.

Netflix has already gotten greedy, when I first got my subscription in 2011 I paid $6.99/month, and for $2 more a month or something I could have no only had streaming but the most basic DVD plan as well.
