  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

"If my name is on that list, I guess I'll see you soon"

I love my job, but sometimes all the death gets to you. I mean, 9 times out of 10 it's someone in their 90's who has lived a long, full life but it's the bereaved widow(er)s, their families, seeing a whole life packed up and dumped into a skip.

I am not a hoarder of rubbish, I am a memory collector. Things that meant so much to the retired clergy, things their next of kin/officials who had to take over because they had no next of kin deem worthless. They were treasured, and I will treasure them too.

I don't know why every picture of myself turns out to look like complete crap.

Although perhaps I have more of an autistic face than I think.

No offense or anything, but autistic people tend to look dead in their photos. I still make facial expressions, yet something always seems off about the photos. Lol.

It's better than having a Down Syndrome face in your photos...

Hey some of them are pretty cheerful looking.

Ain't that the truth. I had a co-worker with Down Syndrome. He had a very happy and playful personality. He took great pride in his movie collection, loved his life in spite of his limitations, and loved to hug everyone. He also tries to comfort you when he thinks you're feeling sad in a very amusing way.

Made me think, "People actually feel threatened by guys like him?"

There is this woman on Youtube who I've recently learned is autistic. Looking back, it makes sense. Her husband is weird, he actually says autistic are more animalistic/feral and more human and therefore superior. That guy from Burzum.

Although some people think autistic eyes are beautiful looking.

Yeah, and some of them are pretty dark and creepy.

There were a few at my school as a kid.

My mother worked as a student aide at my schools after Grade 3. At the schools I attended, there were several kids on the spectrum (including a pair of identical twins) and a girl with brain damage. After graduating, my mother worked with a kid with Fragile X syndrome and two with cerebral palsy, one confined to a wheelchair. My best friend in junior high and the first girl I fell in love with had Pervasive Developmental Disorder.

My mother told me I was her greatest teacher when it came to handling special needs children and teenagers. Nice to know my mother made a career from trying to raise me through trial and error.

How do you feel about the autistic people are more feral and therefore more in connection with nature theory? Lol.

I actually never heard of that before. I'd figure it's the opposite where we thrive better in technological environments. I think that autistics only started having it 'better' when it was realized that we can communicate better through writing than verbal and that some of us are even useful in science and engineering.

I can see why people would see us as feral. The way we behave isn't exactly the most proper way for people who see themselves as the norm. We just happen to be less concerned with physical appearances and just like being ourselves to a fault.

IDK he just said autistic people are more sensitive to sounds and stimuli, which gives them a survival advantage over normal people. Which actually is something interesting to think about.

I have heard of autistic people saying they have more in common with animals than people.

When you're autistic, sounds are louder than they should be, certain textures are incredibly uncomfortable (like the tags at the back of our shirts), and lights are brighter. These things can overstimulate us and it works more to our disadvantage than anything else. *Maybe* they could work in the wild but not in a civilization like ours.

But we also lack common sense, are less likely to be violent, and have a very naive trust for potential predators. Definitely not good for survival.

You're talking to one right now, aren't you? ;)

Hmmm.. not sure if I ever had much of a problem with loud noises.. I get a little disoriented at the mall but gradually get used to it. I do have a problem with textures, a lot of them make me feel icky.

I don't really have a naive trust for predators, I've always been very suspicious and therefore distant from others.

Still I do feel like I should look for a new diagnosis. I just seem to exhibit too many of these autistic signs. Lol.

I do know my mind is pretty repetitive.

Is that why you relate to furryism? Lol.

It's different for each person on the spectrum. Some are low functioning enough to require care their entire lives and some just seem to be huge nerds rather than having an actual disability. I myself was a textbook example (with the exception of lack of empathy) and outgrew many of these traits over time.

I still got long ways to go, especially trying to change my view on life and try to be productive again.

I entered the Furry Fandom in 2015 after asking myself, "Am I even human?" After being treated like a dumb animal that can stand up and talk my entire life, I decided to take up an online fursona as more or less a symbolic thing. Another thing too is that I would rather harm a human than an animal if I was more capable of violence.

A lack of empathy is an autistic trait? I don't have that, although the way I experience empathy is different. Such as empathy for a partner, like the bdsm stuff.

I've never been good at connecting and "loving" others, at least how it's traditionally viewed. When I was tested as a baby/toddler they listed my unwillingness to embrace and hug others as a symptom of autism. Hugs just never did anything for me. It was just a silent black hole that has always made me feel uncomfortable.

That's interesting. So it's just an online thing for you? You don't go around dressing in those costumes?

I have managed to shock a lot of doctors by displaying empathy. How many times have you heard of an autistic guy going out of his way to raise money for a family in Latin America, even if it means putting himself in a situation where he will get ridiculed for it?

I actually don't remember a time where I didn't like being touched. I actually don't mind it at all. Anyone on this forum could just walk up to me, start petting my mustache and I would be standing there thinking, "How am I going to respond to this?"

That's interesting. So it's just an online thing for you? You don't go around dressing in those costumes?

Heavens no! I just enjoy the art, not the cosplaying. There is no way I could go out in public dressed like an animal. I am actually capable of shame even if my posts suggest otherwise.
