  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I believe another reason Trump won is because we are tired of the media telling us who is winning weeks before we vote. We are tired of the loud minority ruling over the silent majority.
That's an interesting perspective.

The propaganda against Trump in the media was very great. Now it's like it disappeared haha.

Media has been testing it ability to see if they can make Americans vote a specific way for the last 60 years. We just taught them that they cant.

Or did we?

I want to believe.

Actually we did knock them off their behinds. On the Tonight show last night Jimmy Fallon was almost crying at the beginning of the show in disbelief that traditional America took back what is ours. To bad it was with trump but in reality maybe Trump can do what normal politicians could not do.

On my mind is community college. I just got accepted into one (not hard to do, you just apply without any credentials necessary besides gr.12 or equivalent haha). Just got my email. It's an IT college, very credible, and it's a 2 year course in computer programming. What's exciting is it's a brand new course, before it was just an IT course with the option of concentration in programming later on in the course. Now it's just straight computer programming for 2 years, which is what I would want if I went that route. I ran into an old friend of mine who took the other course and he said I should definitely take the new one.

I tried a different form of schooling earlier this year but was unable to follow through due to my mental state at the time. But I'm stronger now thanks to God and his love, and I'm thinking I'll be able to handle it next year. Time will tell of course.

But I'm excited about it, which is a good sign to me that I should follow through with it. I'm good with computers, and always had an interest in coding, since I was a young teen (I used to write little DOS batch scripts to those who know what those are haha, and used to use packet sniffers to script games).

Congrats, dude. I hope it goes well for you.

What programming languages do you plan on learning?

I came from a forum that (hypocritically) tried to put emphasis on quality rather than quantity of posts. When I first signed up, I tried to emulate that virtue. Now I just let loose and don't worry about negative replies as much.

That, and I post a lot of jokes and drawings that people seem to like.

Thanks.
I think they mainly concentrate on C++, which would be my language of choice too.

If I was any good at programming, I would go for ActionScript to make Flash games and JavaScript to build websites.

What do you plan to use C++ for?

Software for both work and spare time hobbying.

I'm not particularly interested in website development. Game development could be interesting though.

I had a co-worker who was an absolute computer genius and was involved with computers since the 1990's. Problem was, he made a lot of poor choices in life and ended up working minimum wage jobs as a result. He could have made good money working with computers but chose not to do anything productive with it, only destructive purposes.

He would make programs that allowed him to gain control of other people's computers, hacked into systems including a University's internet server (he said they had amazing internet connection). There was even one incident where he got into his high school's computer system and typed in a code into the system's core files that completely shut down the entire school's computer system. The code was also made that it looked like a blank line and it took computer repairmen hours to figure out how to fix it. Another kid who didn't know squat about computers got blamed for it.

Be sure to use it for productive reasons.

Yeah, many people who code get involved in the darker realm of it all. There's a lot of power that can easily be abused once you're good enough at it.

Back in my Newgrounds years, there was a user that would submit flash that was coded to attempt to make your printer print out gay porn. The website needed a flagging system for stuff like this.

Just imagine doing that with school computers and doing a good enough job to cover your tracks.

Oh Newgrounds... LOL... used to go on when i was 8-10, would sneak on it at the library with friends.

But yeah that would be pretty easy to do, the school thing, heck I could probably code that right now in DOS script commands.

I wouldn't be blackhat though. Blackhat (destructive) hackers actually get into pretty dark realms in life. I wouldn't get involved with any form of that sort of thing I doubt. Just a hobbyist, would create fun, useful programs with code, besides working.

But despite that, I think questions need to be asked about a system which has resulted in those two candidates, neither of whom were that appealing (to an outsider at least), as that comes across as it being more broken than the popular vote/electoral college discrepancy.

That's definitely what I see as the problem with this election, and the state of America. The status quo, the two-party system, the media... ect. It's all contributed to the current situation, and IMO the nomination of two awful candidates, neither one of which I could stomach voting for.

After losing my job, being evicted, relocating, twice, barely escaping a lawsuit from a less-than-reputable predatory company, and searching, aimlessly for months for anything vaguely resembling a career opportunity, I finally got a response from one high-rolling company who is building a team and views me "very highly." I have been told I will be getting an offer next week.

Time. To. Panic.

Anyone ever hear from @Quieted anymore? Or did she vanish off the face of the Earth? :mmh:
No, it has been a long time. I know she was always quite busy though. I hope she's well!
