  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What's on your mind?

I found out st valentines was like this french revolutionary. Nothing to do with cards, flowers and chocolates.

Im going to have to do some wikipediaing.

Why would you use Wikipedia? A few years ago, author Phillip Roth tried to edit the page dedicated to him on Wikipedia. Every time he tried to edit it, his edit was reversed. After a lot of run around, he finally managed to talk to an actual person at Wikipedia. When he asked why his edits about himself were reversed, they actually said, "We don't consider you to be a credible source". So, basically, they told the guy that he wasn't a credible source...about himself.

Thats Wackopedia.

I, as an American am just...... applauding the arrogance of someone in Germany right now.

It makes me proud..... that we.... the considered most arrogant of people.... are out done by the Germans in an arrogant statement on the reviews of this documentary I am watching. ^_^

The documentary, filmed in Japan (Which maybe I am watching because I would LOVE to see Japan..... Id probably never leave if I ever understood the language.)

Anyway this person in Germany matches claimed American arrogance levels with his comment..... "Why is this host on screen while he has someone voice over? His being there is pointless. Maybe if he were speaking English and talking to the viewer."

^_^ Japanese currency used in demonstrations...... :|
^_^ Japanese buildings and citizens through the entire show. :|
^_^ Japanese host speaking obviously in Japanese. (While English is spoken in voice over) :|
^_^ Driving on left side of the road in cars with the steering wheel on the right side. :|

Gets reviews like this:

"Speak English or go away ya moron!"

Nevermind the fact that it was so obviously targeted for its country of origin.

You go Germany!!

Its because I haven't been posting on this thread lately. As you all know, I'm a calming influence and never cause trouble. :bigeye:
I haven't been around much either, so I'll shamelessly jump in to steal some credit :p

Its so funny that americans think they speak english. They dont. They speak american.
The english speak english.
Australians speak strine. Which is a garbled dialect version of english.
Nzers speak kiwi.

We all just happen to write using the english language and alphabet, but as for speaking it, thats a different story.

Yo, Toro! Sorry I've been quiet lately. So busy.

Yeah, V-Day is sucks when you're single. It is also my parents' wedding anniversary. I'll be spending most the day cooking and trying to keep my mom happy, which my sister makes a Herculean feat every single year. The last few years, she's brought her kids to be babysat while she and her husband go shopping and stuff, then come back to be served dinner because they're married, and so V-Day is automatically about them; and not my parents who got married on V-Day. Logic.
And this year, my sister decided not to come at all, which to my mom means she's not making any effort, which is somehow equal to no one is making an effort. So in short, no matter what I do or how much effort I put into it- it will not be enough, because my sister didn't do anything.

But hey, all things considered, last year my parents had their anniversary dinner in the hospital, so definitely counting blessings.

I am so sorry to hear that Mojo!!! That is horribly rude and very inconsiderate on both your sister's and your mother's part. I'm glad however that your parents are not in a hospital and way to go to go all out for your parents! Have a cookie!

There's certainly a lot of "self" going on, but then again it seems like that happens everyday, only to be magnified on such a day as today. happens I hope things will get better for you and your parents.

So, the initiator of this conversation just walked away silently instead of responding at all? Who would do that?

OMM: I had a weird, vaguely-played-out dream last night where somehow I understand that the entire chain of events that occurred happened over a period of many years (and entire childhood's worth, really) and in generally the same location, a stretch of about half a mile on the road that leads to my grandparents' tiny neighborhood in Chattanooga, a location that I tend to dream about as frequently as once a week.

I set out as a young Sarah's Knight on this Eragon-like mission to find and take revenge on some kind of legendary, well-known monstrous beast who killed my entire family or something, and I tracked him down to a wheat field on the side of Gunbarrel Road where a few lower-income houses high up on hills or down in dangerously low-elevation fields (dangerous when it rains heavily and floods everything) are lined alongside the road IRL. I take a shot with some magic bow & arrow (I think?) and miss him barely, and he flees, but somehow I am determined to spend the rest of my life hunting and bringing down this great beast once and for all, ... without needing to pursue him very far at all, but rather, taking up residence at this one tiny house near the wheat field where some poor farmer lives in wait to see the beast again somewhere in a relatively short vicinity of just a quarter to a half-mile or so. I don't know why the beast would stay around here at all, especially well into my adulthood, but somehow I know that he will. I end up living in that location for the rest of my childhood and well into my adult years, having worked as a farmhand for the guy I was taking up residence with as way of payment and going to some really small, old-fashioned school also in the vicinity in order to learn what would have been considered the only essentials for a poor student back in the day to have any measure of education (basic reading and writing), and developing a pretty large circle of friends my own age who also live around there. And the dream would repeatedly skip ahead months or even years at a time over the lone period in which I did the rest of my growing up in that area on Gunbarrel Road while having me go through an event at each point in time being shown to me in which I would basically get some kind of tip-off from a neighbor or one of my school friends about another sighting of the beast and I would formulate a plan to sneak up on him and slay him as I had apparently dedicated my entire life to training in swordsmanship and hunting for. .... Also, for some reason as a barely teen child when this dream's first events were occurring, I had become infatuated with this single adult woman who lived in an even smaller (like, the kind of poor family's house you'd see in one of those overseas charity commercials to help kids in Africa or South America) house than the poor farmer yet had some kind of high-tech shower on the upper floor her house that you could see her bathing in crystal-clear from the outside, thus seeing a fully-nude beautiful older woman so easily just by being outside working in that wheat field nearby where I first took a shot at the beast would of course aggravate developing hormones in me that I did not even understand yet, ... and would also always get me in trouble with the farmer guy if he caught me gazing up at her when she was bathing on the upper floor. He would chastise me like you would imagine a mere adult acquaintance doing to a ten or eleven year-old boy if he was caught doing something relatively harmless but extremely rascally while making trouble downtown in an old family film, threatening to tell on him to his folks or something. ^_^

It was weird, but, it was kind of a cool dream, I guess.

I think of another time near valentines. there was a couple who were close to the family. they slept together and looked to a future. one day the girl had grown tired and told him she wanted to see other people. so he came over to talk. on his way he brought a shotgun and shells.
