  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I love tomatoes! Also I need to start buying cucumbers too for more hydration, as we all know... winter is coming, and that means skin is more dry! >.<

My favorite is asparagus though. But the store I work at doesn't sell them.... boo!
Gotta hurry it up and finish writing and eat.

If someone were to mention the prophet Mani or Manichaeism, you would probably have no idea what they are talking about.

It was one of the biggest rivalries to Christianity to replace paganism, and they had churches from the Roman Empire to as far as China. Even St. Augustine was a Manichean before he became Christian.

Unfortunate to say, most of its texts/resources were destroyed and only few fragments remain. I wish to find some which remain to further study it.

Yes, it shows you a major religion can pretty much be wiped from existence.

Same happened with Gnosticism and later on with Cathars, altho Gnosticism has been rediscovered since then. I think the Cathar Crusade is probably the darkest chapter in the history of the Christian church.

Yeah, I once saw a TV series about the Cathar's

Typically when people think about the Crusades they think about the incursions into the Middle East. But they were plenty of crusades that took place in Europe itself as well.

Yup, the ones in the Middle East are just the most famous ones. Also they are the most unsuccessful ones... My country, Finland, was Christianized by Swedish Crusades around 1100-1300. Finland was exclusively Christian for 600-800 years after that, so in terms of long term impact, that Crusade alone achieved a lot more than all the Middle East Crusades put together.

You're absolutely right, I've no idea what Manichaeism is, nor have I heard of it.
