  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Sorry Matt. I don't think you want me to join in this time anyway, lol. I will try to figure out the rules on my own and join next time.
The best way to learn is to play!

You should be in luck, then... Angry Birds is too complex for me.

I can't type because I'm a guest, but thank you. The computer wasn't shuffling well at the beginning.

What's Dutch Blitz? Is that what Canadians call speed?

I'm not the best one to explain. To this day, I'm still not exactly sure what the concept is, lol.

I'm kidding. It is totally speed based. You are given cards of various colors and numbers. The goal is to get rid of all your cards first and "blitz." You have to move really fast as others will dispose their cards first, often preventing you from doing so. At the end of each round, you get penalized for any cards left in your hand. My score was so ridiculously bad.

In fairness, I've only really had this game explained to me properly once. It was this past New Year's Eve, and we didn't start till after midnight. I was already exhausted from running in the cold that day and was half asleep. I understood the concept, but you have never seen anyone move so slow. It was like I had palsy, lol.

That sounds like Speed.

Probably. My area has a lot of Dutch families, and they all excel at this game. This is the name I was told when I learned the game.

There's a game that I know called Speed, played between two people. You take a deck of cards, and place two cards face down. On each side, you make a stack of cards on each on end, and deal the rest to each player. You then flip up the two cards and can play your cards according to the cards in the middle. You can only play it if it's the same card, one above it, or one below it. For example, if it's a five, you can lay another five, a four, or a six. If neither player can play, you take one from each stack to put on so play can continue. First player to run out of cards wins.

Yeah, it is different. You can play with up to four players in Dutch Blitz. It sounds like a similar premise to Speed, but not the same. In Dutch Blitz, the card you dispose is always one point higher than the card in the middle of the pile. Plus you have multiple piles going in the center. I am sure Messy can contribute more to this when she sees this post.

Oh okay. There really is no point system in Speed, it's just a matter of finishing quickly. You also can't really do points since Ace is both high and low so it could go King, Ace, 2, 3 and then back to 2, Ace, King, Queen.

Okay, Dutch Blitz sounds more complicated then. Trust me, you can get really burned in Blitz, lol. I don't recall what my score was by the end of that game, but I told my sister's friend never to bring this game again, haha.
