Perhaps Canadian Dutch families have slightly different traditions than you do in Holland. It's the same with Italians living in U.S./Canada. I noticed quite a difference when I was in Italy.
Niagara Falls is more Italian, but the surrounding small rural towns are definitely more Dutch. I've had a few people ask me if I'm Dutch (I guess the blonde hair?). I always laugh and think, do you not notice how short I am?
