  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What's on your mind?

It is very interesting. The drink I mentioned was a "stomach tonic" for people with ulcers and who had trouble keeping their food down. The effect I mentioned came from the fact that it also contained wheat poppies, which contains small amounts of opium. She used to make a tonic from foxglove, which if you didn't know what you were doing, could kill. Foxglove contains digitalis. I used to go out with her as a kid and help collect "medicine".
Wow! You seem to have a good knowledge of the components of those herbs too. I think it is wonderful you were able to go out with her to collect the medicine and learn some from her...I wish I had been able to do that as a child. :)

I wouldn't use it on a regular basis unless you had a real problem.

I wouldn't be too worried. Id take it until I felt "off".

Usually if I over do it I can feel it.... the difference between older Toro and young Toro.... Old Toro now listens to the body. Its a miracle and grace of God my heart didn't explode 15 years ago with high doses of God knows what to increase workout stamina. I do miss working out until my entire body felt like it was going to fall apart. Wake up the next day feeling 100% and doing it all over again. Ahhhhh, I miss that part of youth. (Not that I am OLD, but old enough to regret such actions)

There was an old Cherokee man who, believe it or not, made a poultice that could actually remove skin cancer. But he died before passing on his "secret". My grandparents, except for my father's father, were Cherokee. I'm 1/4 Cherokee. My grandmother took the knowledge she had from her white and Cherokee ancestors. Growing up, she lived almost 10 miles from town. There were no roads to town, only horse paths.

Growing up, I was the only one of my siblings who was interested in learning the "old ways", so my grandparents passed everything they knew on to me. I can make medicine, work iron (blacksmithing), make a churn or a bucket (coopering), make a wagon wheel...pretty much anything you needed to know to live in the 19th century.

I can tell you this. Some of the ingredients are hard to come by now. Yellow root, for instance, is almost disappeared from the wild. Idiots thought they could make a quick buck on it. Someone actually stole a lot of it from my "patches". Ginseng too. Of course, ginseng is going for over $250/lb dried. They stole more than 60lb from me.

I believe it. I have read of some amazing things about certain Native herbal treatments. I think that sounds like an ideal life. Modern times are too busy and complicated.

I think it is such a good thing to learn as many practical and useful skills as possible, because you never know when you will need them, so that is great you learned all of that.

Wow. Yeah, ginseng I drink regularly in my tea.... of course its Arizona green tea so its obviously not the good stuff or potent but.... there is at least a tiny bit in my diet already.

I WAS using Beta-Alanine and Creatine which I LOOOOOOOOOOVE, but my heart and kidneys don't like that mix too much. I DO miss the tingles from Beta Allanine though. :( When I was taking it and I felt a sharp pain in my heart..... Day one of heart pain after using it for awhile it happened I said it was just a "fluke" Day two, "Okay maybe I should stop" Day three: "Okay, okay, I'll stop". After cutting out the beta, no more heart pain.

It felt like a thump to my heart, it didnt last long, but hurt enough to get my attention before it vanished.

Some of it was a lot of fun. Ever been to a taffy pull? Great stuff. Of course, some of it grossed people out. Do you know what a "stick" of bologna is called and why?

You were over-dosing. Don't go by the recommendations on the label. Some people are sensitive to certain compounds. That's one reason you really have to know what youre doing when using supplements or herbal remedies.

Hey, Im fair game for jokes made of me...... just as long as its fair game sense of humor.

I dislike those that make fun of others, but they or their "group" are off limits.

People that can't take jokes and I don't usually get along well. People NEED to be able to laugh at themselves, not just others.

I don't offend easy at all.... only time I get angry is if the joke is more malice or propaganda than "good times".

Same here. You should hear the jokes we tell about ourselves. Lets just say it wouldn't be "proper" in mixed company.

I could sing to you. It would either lull you to sleep or make you seek unconsciousness to get away from my voice. lol

Humor and I are strange bedfellows. Sometimes I make jokes that people either don't get or find a little offensive, and sometimes the jokes go over well. And then sometimes I feel like making jokes about people who I supposedly think "need their fair share" of jokes against them because no one else will make fun of them, but then I never tell most people said "jokes" because I feel like they won't get them. And to top it all off I am very thin-skinned.

I don't think I have heard of it.

Well, bologna, well any type of sausage, was originally called a "gut". And the reason for that is, intestines were originally used for the "casings". Just like the original suture used by surgeons for internal surgeries (the kind that dissolved inside the body) were called "cat gut". Because that was what they were made of.

Ahh, yes. They still are used actually from what I have read. I guess I do know about it; I remember my mom looking up (I think sheep) casings for our goat sausage at one time trying to determine which was the best type to order. I don't know too much about it, though I can imagine how it would gross some people out.
