It can become easier or more difficult to read depending on the type of translation it is. NIV tends towards the thought-for-thought whereas translations like the ESV are more literal and tend towards the word-for-word translation.

In fact, ESV I think is ranked 3rd in accuracy for word-for-word translations, behind the Interlinear and NASB. That said, I still think it's quite readable, however, having a study bible on hand to read the notes if you get stuck is invaluable and the ESV's own study bible is great for that.

I want to buy a NRSV Oxford Annotated.

I don't like comparing versions for "accuracy" because different translations use different sources and have different translators working on them.

I prefer the ESV, though that may be due to the fact that that is what most the professors used while I was in seminary. In fact at one point, maybe for OT1, it was a required buy. I love the flow and sound though and prefer it to the KJV or NIV but it's more for taste reasons than any sort of reasonable argument.

The thread titled "do people like being damaged" made me think about how the best part of being "damaged" (depressed, hurt, broken, etc) is when we turn to God and he lifts us out of that place. Not that it's easy to get better - just that sometimes when things are easy and going our way sometimes we don't rely on God as much as we should all the time.
Personally it was in my hardest or darkest times that I sometimes grew the most. I can't say it was ever a fast change though; but I can look back and say those were all learning experiences even if some might still hurt a bit.
God cares about us no matter what.

Ran into a guy that I met at the Local Farmer's market when i was just perusing around. I finally got his name, was fed so much chocolate I feel amazing, and found out that he's a Christian! He works with a chocolate shop and he makes it to boot.

Oh I had such a good day, though kids tried to break into the unit but we got plastic sheeting and glue and fixed the windows ourselves, strong women fixing windows with what we had at hand brilliant.

I have nearly got everything in for Glastonbury, got my alcohol sorted and will collect in England.... am so excited this time next week I shall be dancing on a rock or something lol

Drinking is fine, getting drunk is the sin. So like you say, Jesus had no problem with drinking, but to excess is a problem

And yeah, I heard it's pretty hectic there for that kinda thing lol.

They are happy when they see others fail.

Ahh. It's quite common, really. Look at shows like Jerry Springer and the like -- I can't imagine why anyone would watch them other than to point and laugh at people worse off than themselves.
