  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Well i studied international relations as a paper at uni, but I dont think we got to the bottom of the russia vs usa thing we concentrated on other countiries and the first and second world wars.

Maybe the russians and the americans could make peace with ballet or something.

Or..I dont know, have a trans siberian to america railroad tunnel built.

How nz and australians make peace is we go have holidays for cheap in the gold coast, and the aussies come here for sight seeing on the cruise ships.

Of all the amazing, beautiful things in this universe, perhaps one of the more miraculous events is that which happens beneath our own skin. The human body is like a universe of its own, with energy, matter, functions, science, and unexplainable phenomenon coursing through our system.
And much like our great galaxy which holds a small glimmer of life, our own anatomical milky way can produce, hold, and support its own seperate entity - A beautiful vessel of energy, both physical and spiritual - a new star to share its light with the universe.

Im sorry but i just dont get why usa and russia hate each other so much.
Is it just because they are neighbours?
Like how australia and nz pretend not to like each other and make fun of each other, and also uk and france?

Or because russia uses usas letters in its name?
Or is it because of the silly space race?
Canada is equally cold and vast as russia but they seem to get on oright. I mean of all the countries to pick on in the world why does usa constantly go on about russians. What did they ever do to them????

Americans made movies of tolstoys novels so they cant hate them THAT much. And as far as I know, russians never threaten to cut off their vodka supplies so I just dont see where the problem is. I mean, those james bond movies arent even real.

As for communism, well, if americans dont like it doesnt mean they have to go to war over it. Just agree to disagree. Other countries dont like capitalism as a system of govt its much of a muchness.

America and the west only like weak Russia, if Russia is strong they hate it because the west no longer has monopoly on power. Russia can put west in check (and should do so)

USA, lost freedoms, looking more like Stalin USSR
Russia gain freedoms, looking more like old America.

The duck and cover era was a generation of people told by their government the way to survive an atomic bomb is to simply "duck and cover"

Ohhhh, right, now I remember.

Thinking of publishing a book. But how? So many vanity publishers out there wanting to take you for a ride, too much hard work and huge cost on your own, and a snowballs chance in hell for being accepted by the big five main publishing houses unless one is already famous.

Not used to this new format, so still screwing up the quote function.

It SHOULD be? Lioness, are you telling me that IF (let's just say this for the sake of argument) you did not believe in hell as eternal torment, then you would not be motivated to believe in and serve Christ?

Not at all. I would still be motivated by the Spirit to believe whether punishment was eternal or temporary. Punishment for unbelief would not be desirable to me under any circumstances no matter what.

When you really sit and think about just what we are being saved from it is rather amazing. God, without mercy, cast out of heaven Satan and his angels for their pride and disobedience and did not seek to redeem them. But we have committed those same sins and yet God set in motion a plan to redeem us to Himself using His very own Son as the propitiation for those sins, and that without hesitation. God did not think twice about His desire to reconcile us to Himself. It was an automatic response of a loving Father. This should absolutely be what drives our desire to worship Him. We deserve absolutely nothing and yet in Christ we were given everything.

To me that sounds an awful lot like submitting to a tyrant king who demands your love, so you force yourself to love him simply to avoid punishment. (And no, I am not calling God a tyrant in saying this.) How do you truly love a father who you are afraid is going to put you in a torture chamber of some sort where you to live in some kind of agony for eternity if you never submit? That's serving him more out of a loathing fear than love. I mean, it really sounds like you were saying here that you only love God to escape hell.

That's why the Bible often times describes God's relationship to us as a father who disciplines those He loves. In the same way that a child obeys their father because they fear the consequences of disobedience, so is our relationship with God. But this is done not out of compulsion, but respect and love as is a child's love for their earthly father.

And as to comparing God's wrath in hell to the consequences He laid out for Israel in the Old Testament if they turned to other gods and did other forms of disobedience, yes, I agree with that. That is yet another reason I take the conditionalist stance of hell, because if the kind of punishment Israel endured in the OT for their sins can be at all compared to the fate that lies in store for unbelievers, then that more closely matches what we conditionalists believe will occur, than it does eternal torment. Did God ever say one thing in the OT about the Israelites going to a place to suffer consciously forever after they died on Earth if they turned from Him? Or anything that remotely sounds like it? Not that I remember. Every single time it was some kind of conscious punishment like war with their enemy nations, strife and confusion, constant fear, famine, ending ultimately in being put to the sword (i.e. death), albeit with few survivors He would eventually bring back from their enemies' oppression. If the disobedient Israelites had more to fear than a violent and dishonorable death as a punishment (which sounds more than scary enough as it is to me), as in they then go to hell after their earthly death to suffer infinitely, why wouldn't God bring this up also?

They suffered on Earth for their sins and, indeed, that suffering was only a foretaste of what was to come in the afterlife if they continued in their sin.

Read the parable of the the rich man and Lazarus. It details exactly what the unrepentant wicked will suffer.

But I do not wish to argue with you at length, Lioness. We are flawed human beings prone to giving offense or too easily being offended when discussing subjects that are notoriously sensitive like this, and so it is not worth me possibly saying something mean or my mistakenly taking something you say as an attack by our continuing on, when we are friends. Many people in my position can answer your questions and challenges better than I do without the disadvantage of it becoming personal, if you are willing to investigate.

I'm not offended at all. I'm just defending what I know to be God's truth. I think that's always worth possibly ruffling a few feathers. No offense is intended of course, but if one is convicted by the Spirit through the defense of the Word, then I say that's a good thing.

Sarahs knight are you and lioness having a discussion on hell?
Would you like to make a separate thread so it can be followed. Its interesting but kinda needs its own thread.
I may jump in at some point cos it sounds a bit like what we were discussing in one of the ladies bible studies and I would like to nut it out.
