I guess since I'm posting in here I'll actually answer the question, first purchase was the old Navy Seal gun!! Sig P226 Mk25. Turns out I'm not really a gun guy I couldn't get into it, bought a few for looks but they just sit in a drawer now.

Ooo, your 870 has real nice wood! I got lucky with mine, I found a Wingmaster in a pawnshop for $325, and told the guy, hey what's with that? I can go right over to Kmart and get an 870 brand new for $189...so he said, ok 189. So I bought it, A Wingmaster! But I scarred it up hunting one day. I was making my way down a frozen creek in the rocky mountains and my feet slipped out from under me and it went flying, skating down the frozen rocks, lol. It's funny now but wasn't then.

So I bought a police trade in barrel 18" with a bead for it and had both barrels and the gun anodized gun metal grey and then I camo'd the wood instead of refinishing it. Then added the sidesaddle and extended mag and all that and it was real versatile then. and totally weatherproof with that anodizing. No wait, not anodized...something else...real tough finish. Dang I forget the name of it right now. Brain fart, lol.

Aha! I remember! it was Powdercoated gun metal grey!

It was pretty easy once I got the hang of it. I did it maybe 3 or 4 times, lol. You pick your colors based mostly on your surrounding area that you live in. I gave it a base coat of green and then wasted a bunch of time, paint and effort, cutting odd designs out of manila folders to use to paint with. Next time, I'll forgo all that and just pick a selection of green leaves from the area! (Ding!).

and you lay your template (or leaf) up against the stock and paint. Keep switching colors and so forth. A big tip is, try not to go too fast or get too much coverage too soon. The drips and runs are a pita, lol. I never have been a painter but I taught myself a lot doing that stock. I finally got it looking even better than in the picture by using leaves. That looks super cool.

after you're done with your camo job, you subdue it with black paint. This is done by holding the can wayy back so it just speckles the stock. Do that a couple times and let it dry in between and it should come out looking great.
Practice on a piece of wood before attacking the stock. Unlike me! Lol

You know, you guys....Powdercoating is a fantastic finish. It is totally weatherproof, and veerry durable. My friend demonstrated the durability by taking me outside to watch him throw rocks at his motorcycle! (He's a nut, and overdoes everything lol). He had his bike powdercoated and wanted to show me how it wont chip and stuff. He has a buddy who is a pro at it and does sidejobs in his garage/paintbooth.

He did my 870, both barrels, the extended mag, the original mag tube nut, and the gun for 40 bucks. (Friend price, pretty sure it was for materials only).

The only bad part was...over spray inside the receiver. He taped it off and all that but it still got in there. I spent a couple weeks working on it after work sanding it out of there to get it back to that buttery smooth action that it was before! Whew! When I first got it back, the bolt wouldn't even fit into it, lol. I had to disassemble it completely and re-assemble it myself for this job.
Next time (if), I will spend more time and tape taping it off correctly. (I had to do that too)

But for 40 bucks, it was well worth it. (Note: the serial number was barely readable when I got it back. It was ok...I asked a cop buddy, but, something to think about.)

Thanks for the tips! I should probably practice before hand yeah, lol; it might be best to wait until the Summer though to start painting. Btw, painting your gun won't cause it become more susceptible to jamming or anything?

Well I only painted the wood stock and I took it all apart to do that.

When I got it powdercoated, he wanted me to bring it to him disassembled and taped off so the powdercoating wouldn't get on the inside. I did, but that was my first experience in doing that and a bunch of it did get inside. I couldn't even get the bolt back into it. I spent quite awhile polishing it out of the inside of the receiver. But i did, and eventually it got that buttery smooth action again and works fine. It looks real good and works good. I guess it's rust-proof now because of the powder coat. Except inside.

Btw, I love the handguns at the top-left and bottom-center. What kind are those, if you don't mind me asking?

I'd like to get a handgun for self defense one day, but it would probably just be something standard. Perhaps like a Glock or something like that.

Top left is a Ruger MK II 22 pistol. Because of my weirded out computer skills (lol) it looks like it has a 3" barrel, but it's really a 5.5" barrel...and a tack driver! Good choice!

The bottom center is a Freedom Arms 22 mini-Revolver (22 S-L-LR) with an 1 1/8" barrel. He split from the freedom arms company and started the North American Arms company who now make the 22 mini-revo's. They are great pocket guns. A nice thing to have when you're not carrying a gun, lol.

First gun I bought (I was 14, and with a hunting licence, we could at that age back then) was a British .303 rifle; $35.00, and surplus ammo was $2.00/box of 80 rounds.

First handgun was a British made 1932 Webley-Enfield revolver; military surplus in .38 S & W; I still have it and it still shoots like a laser beam; however ammo is hard to get so I reload (bigger shell holder, using 9mm Luger dies and over-sized 140 gr. cowboy action lead cast bullets. Third was a Remington Nylon bought new for $75.00; it still shoots great. 4th a High Standard .22 SportKing pistol, which I still have and shoot regularly (long story on it; it was stolen from the dealer, missing for over 5 years, recovered by the police, returned to the dealer, had some pitting on the outside, but perfectly fine internally, and I bought it from the dealer also for $75.00.

There have been many, many more ever since; rifles and shotguns, some I still have, many have gone to new homes; and a number of those I wish I still had!

Still have one, and my wife still shoots it! Bought new in the '70 for coon hunting at night; with a Tasco 6 X on it; 10s of 1000s of rounds throug it. Very accurate still!

When I moved to Arizona, I started modifying the coyote gun into more of a prepper battle rifle and updated the camo to reflect the lighter desert terrain...

And just for grins, the last gun I painted was my Glock G29 that I used for woods carry...

I prefer your camo, lol! I just stopped too soon I guess. They got my Bushmaster and Carbon-15.
But not my pile of mags, so I need to replace that soon.

My camo blended ok in the rocky mountains in my areas that I frequented. But I'd really rather carry a rifle than a SG.
