What type of craft project are you working on now?

They are fun to do. We also have warm and natural batting here in the states. I have to say it is my favorite batting, as it is thin and 100% cotton so it will shrink with the 100% cotton fabrics and doesn't migrate (the fibers through the fabric).

HEHEH sorry for the misinformation...I am in the states too. I choose the South African Flag because I married in December my sweetheart from South AFrica and my children and I have lived there back in 2000 for a six month overseas experience. I have been traveling to and from South AFrica since 97 and some days I feel more south african now than american.

I know that in SA they have a batting that is very similar to warm and natural in weight but it isn't quite the same. I love warm and natural. It makes these rag quilts so comfy. You are so right about it not migrating ...that is the AMAZING thinga bout it..It stays put

I'm currently working on my scrapbook from my mission trip to Yellowknife NWT this past summer. Of course I've been working on it since December but life is busy! I'm hoping to get the motiviation to finish it soon and start on the 500 other pictures I have from the past year!

What kind of pattern are you using? Do you pick one color, cream or black or ?? to hold the whole thing together for effect?

I have dozens of different colors, some little bits, some lots a bits that I used figure out more to use up. I've done scrap afghans before... just never seems to use up enough scraps.

Basically, yes. I know when I think of afghan, I think of yarn, crocheted or knitted blankets of various sizes. That's mostly what we call yarn, handmade blankets here in the states.

Last night I finished with a purse that I knitted and then felted. I put it together and a few bits of beads (nothing fancy) on the front. Today I purchased some yarn for a birthday present for another purse.

I didn't think it was too hard. You just do basic knit. You use circular kneedles, knit the bottom, then pick up stitches all the way around and knit in the round for a long time. You use 100% wool yarn, so it will felt. You make an I-cord for the handle(s). I added some fun fur at the top of the purse for a funky effect and then put it in a pillowcase, rubber banded shut, and put in the washing machine: low water level, hot water, with a few old towels or jeans and aggitate for a while. When it's shrunk and felted to the size you wish, remove, shape and air dry. You poke holes in the purse for the I-cord strap, knot the ends and there you go.

The hardest part is trying to figure out what it will really look like once it's felted. I put in some stripes with another color of yarn actually it had 4 colors in it. Before I felted it, I didn't like the stripes in it. I thought I might have made a mistake, but since I did not want to rip it out I left them. The strips became more subtle and I love them in the final product. I'll be taking pictures, so I can post them.... eventually. It's a normal camera, so no expidited shots to put up.

I'd say give it a try. I knitted one and a half things years and years ago and then nothing until about 6 months ago and only scarves. So I think they are pretty easy. I've already started the handles for my next one tonight. The only other hard part is getting used to working with circular kneedles, but truly that's not so bad.

Do you have a particular pattern you are working on... I love scrap afghans/blankets, they are a lot of fun to do.... except hiding all those ends...

I am making some washcloths out of some old towels that aren't quite worn, but they ended up with some holes in them. It's a way of conserving on something that still looks good, and is useable.

You know you are awesome! Thanks for the great idea. I have towels that got bleach spots on them by being out by the pool. Woohoo! now I know what to do with those embarrassing towels! They get holes not long after they are bleached out like that. you are a star! thanks
