  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What type of craft project are you working on now?

I have been learning a new trade. Sterling Silver and Gemstone beading and wire wrapping. I am starting a new business...this is so up my alley. I love creating pretty things. I am also learning how to work with beeswax. I finally found my calling ;)

I'm making quilts for soldiers wounded in Iraq/Afghanistan.

That's fantastic - are you working with an existing charity or project, or on your own? (If you know of a group that does this, or a charity that collects them, I'd love to know about it.)

I just picked up a few new needlepoint canvases today, but I haven't picked out all my silks yet.

I am new here but really enjoyed read about all the different projects people have going. I currently have a cross stitch peacock on an Asian influenced background that i work on at work, and a knitted pillow top that I'm making for my sister. I'll duplicate stitch Kokopelli on it later. And before any one frowns at me for playing at work... I work 12 hour shifts over night at a hospital, and my job basically consists of watching the p[rinter and waiting for the phone to ring. Our supervisor has said that we can bring things to keep busy.;) I also like to crochet, in fact I prefer it to knitting. If I drop a stitch it's no biggie.

To AveMaria and anyone else who's interested in making quilts for soldiers:

There's one website called quilts for soldiers and another called marine comfort quilts.

For the first website, they want you to make the whole quilt top but you can have another volunteer machine-quilt it for you or you can quilt it yourself.

For the second website, you can just make one 12.5" x 12.5" block (or as many as you like) and they will make it into a quilt. You don't have to be a great seamstress for this one - many of the blocks just have a heartfelt message written in fabric pen.

hey, this thread is cool...i feel at home with all you crafy people already! :)

at the moment, i'm working on my textiles major project...which is due on monday...ugh!!! yeh...i'm supposed to be typing stuff up for it...but...for the practical, i've almost finished it- it's a costume- a giant neckpiece made of hand made felt, dyed purple, stands up in big curves (if you know the Walt Disney Concert Hall, then that's where I got my inspiration from)...has gold paisley motifs stitched onto it, beaded with sequins and beads, with crochet beading hanging from it...

the dress- black semi-see through shirred overlay over a white underlay, a strange sort of texture-y, fluffy...er...bumpy feel to it...with flounce. :)
