• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I believe in what we can observe. Everything that exists, everything that happens has a natural explanation.

Uh, ok. Let me give you this. Ponder it and let me know what you think...If you were walking through a grassy field where, for as far as your eye could see was nothing but hills and grass. You peak one hill and see on the other side a grandfather clock; all its cogs, chains, intricate wood work, chimes, and ability to consistently move at a steady pace. How did it get there?

I could not know for certain, but I would assume some force or another had placed the grandfather clock atop this hill.

Exactly my point, "some force" = God. Whether you believe in the "Big Bang" or whatever, God orchestrated the whole thing. We are here created in His image to have a relationship with Him.

Or it could have simply been a natural occurrence that science is yet unable to explain.

well, science can only go so far and then what? Science is based on what is physical or what you can actually touch and see. Faith is the next step.

What particular event in your life caused you so much pain that mentally you said "If there was a God, He sure isn't looking out for me right now." I believe that's where the majority of us teens begin the descent.

Also, as their is no clear explanation for our origins, how do you reconcile that with your atheistic stance? I myself am an agnostic since I don't believe it's possible to know either way. This universe does, however, operate in ways that the physical has yet to explain (maybe one day? who knows? That's why I like to keep my options open)

How did your family react to your new views?

Would you consider your new atheist stance as one that was based on emotion or logic?

Actually, my doubts did not stem from any sort of emotional pain: I simply decided, after all my years of blind belief, that it was time I applied the same scrutiny to my faith as everything else. Obviously, I came away eventually with the conclusion that there is no god at all.

I don't see anything wrong with a little mystery. I like to believe that the day will come when we will have all the answers. In the meantime, we should not allow such questions to bother us.

How did your family react to your new views?
I have not told them yet.

Would you consider your new atheist stance as one that was based on emotion or logic?
Logic.

So, you take science as far as it can go and you ust stop? How boring is that!
That's your reasoning? I am supposed to believe in god simply because the alternative is boring?

Faith is the next step beyond what science can show you. Faith is believing in what is unseen.
What reason do I have to believe in something that is unseen?

No, you took that out of context and you know it, I gave you other reasons to which you responded...you know, faith.
What reason do I have to believe in something that is unseen?
Well, I can see why you have an issue with that. I guess first you'd have to believe that God is real, that He did create the heavens and the Earth, and that He created you and me from His own image out of love to have a relationship with us. If you don't believe that, then what do you believe your purpose to be?

Fair enough. I apologize.

Why, though? I'm looking for a reason I should believe in something like that. What am I basing this belief on?

If you don't believe that, then what do you believe your purpose to be?
There is no "purpose." Life has no inherent meaning.
