  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What should a new convert know about the potential schism?

I have been trying to make myself familiar with all things Orthodox, not just theological but modern issues as well, and in doing so I came across the problem brewing in the Church over Ukraine and the Patriarch of Constantinople which seems to paint certain branches of the Church as schismatics.

What information is essential for a new convert to know about this issue? Will this power struggle affect the lives of the average Orthodox Christian? I am planning to join the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America so if there is anything I need to watch out for please tell me. I want to be part of the real Church of the Apostles, not a schismatic branch.

I will pray that this problem is resolved and God keeps His Church unified. The gates of hell shall not prevail. :crosseo:

just pray it gets resolved soon. if you feel the need to talk, your priest is there. this is for the bishops to decide anyway.

these high end schisms happen often enough, God will fix it.
