brinny way back in the day it was advantagious to have reps and the more posts you had the more reps you could give at first. hence the whole forum for quantumly increasing them. That was a legit question lol

You probably don't remember but I started many threads to have that stopped because it was getting rediculas ... my reasoning 'the stars at the top of the page were getting too numerous and they made the page look untidy' s'rously lol
