Genesis 14:
18 Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine. He was priest of God Most High
Melchizedek was both king and priest. He was uniquely qualified to take on both offices.

David prophesied in Psalms 110:
4 The Lord hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.

It was confirmed in Hebrews 7:
2b First, the name Melchizedek means “king of righteousness”; then also, “king of Salem” means “king of peace.” 3Without father or mother, without genealogy, without beginning of days or end of life, resembling the Son of God, he remains a priest forever.
Here is the mystery: He is like the Son of God forever.

Who was Melchizedek?

He was the mysterious son of God figure in Genesis that represents the prototype of king-priest forever.

He was a priest under the covenant with Noah. To be a Noachide priest one had to be a firstborn son. Aaron was a Levite, but not a priest because he was a Levite, but because he was was a firstborn son. He was the elder brother of Moses. With the coming of the priesthood of Aaron the law was changed - the Ten Commandments. The Levitical priesthood came after Aaron and a new law was given. Notice the writer to the Hebrews:

Heb 7:11 If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, (for under it the people received the law,) what further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and not be called after the order of Aaron?

Heb 7:12 For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law.

The priesthood of Christ is that change, but in effect the law was rolled back. It rolled back and, in effect, skipped over the Aaronic priesthood, along with the law of the Aaronic priesthood. Notice the writer points out that the new priesthood was no longer the Levites, and not after the order of Aaron, but after the order of Melchesedic. Along with that change in the priesthood came a change in the law. No longer the Levitical law, not the Aaronic law, but the law in effect during the time of the priesthood of Melchesedic - the law of Noah.

Thanks for the reference. This is how to do referencing in a scholarly manner:
  1. Display and indent the quoted text.
  2. Selectively bold the relevant keywords that are important to the point that you are making. No need to bold the entire sentence. Have a laser-sharp focus.
  3. Be concise and precise to the point. No need to quote the whole chapter.
This is what I do for others who read my posts. It is a standard high-school scholarship. If you practice this, I guarantee you: it will improve your analytical thinking. In any case, no one is required to do it :)
