  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

What is all over that page?

I am not ruler over my wife, she and I make house rules together. That way we are both happy and in agreement.
I know....right? It really gives way to allow for abuse in the name of God ("I was just coming between you, honey, and all that "bad" out there! I'm protecting you and our family.").

Making household standards *together* is the only way I can see that it's truly two becoming one. Otherwise it's one trampling the other.....causing them to feel only a shell of who they used to be. I don't see anything that mirrors the nature of God in that (but I can see how some can--especially if they grew up with a domineering parent).

Not being able to be yourself in a marriage would build resentment really fast for me...and that goes for my wife too. I want her to be herself, because if she isn't, then she's not the girl I married.

We're way off topic :p I've tucked before in a joking fashion. Doing out of some other motivation, well...is weird.

Well I know he's controlling I guess I've allowed him to be to avoid his blow ups and because I love him.

Sweetheart...that aint love...it's codependency.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Codependency

Usually is instilled from childhood trauma. I suffered from it until about 22 when I researched the topic for myself and educated myself on how my upbringing promoted unhealthy relationships. It was profound for me.

Do these symptoms fit you and/or your husband?
Commonly cited symptoms of codependency are:[1]

  • intense and unstable interpersonal relationships,
  • inability to tolerate being alone, accompanied by frantic efforts to avoid being alone,
  • chronic feelings of boredom and emptiness,
  • subordinating one's own needs to those of the person with whom one is involved,
  • overwhelming desire for acceptance and affection,
  • external referencing,
  • dishonesty and denial, and
  • low self-worth

There seems to be a growing trend in modern conservative Christianity (and maybe that's due to social media?) that promotes the idea that the husband is responsible for what "goes into" the home (what you're describing: reading material; television; music..etc),
That was common when I was a kid back in 1960 ......
