  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What LOTR Character Would You Marry?

I don't know about the other people's here, Paleo - but I didn't post a quick answer. My choices were based on my reading of the novel - how I personally relate to a kind of character, and well - I am a novelist - so it's easier for me to read between the lines of a character's dialog and their action, not just how the author described them.
Faramir had every oppurtunity to take the ring, as we all know - and he didn't. That puts him up there with Frodo and Sam, imo. He resisted temptation and also defied his father's wishes.

It really buggered me how they messed with that in the movie! argh!

what REALLY got me though?
the Elves marching up to Helm's Deep.
I was sitting with my date who hadn't read the book and he said "What's happening now?"
I HAD to say "Heck if I know!"
lol
Thank God they edited out the part where Arwen is the one to haul Aragon and Gimli out of harms way. I think I might have walked out at that point.

I don't know, I almost snapped at that point, but then just decided to appreciate the fact that the elves were barely noticeable during the battle. What got me screaming for blood was the end of the film, when I couldn't recognize that Gondorian character. I mean, they called him Faramir, but the character was anything but the Faramir I knew from the book. That was so much more grievous than the omission of Tom Bombadil from the first film.

Hmm interesting post. Thank you for posting it.
I would marry Frodo, only because it took courage and bravery to do what he did especaily for such a small guy as himself. Im small for my age too, so i know how it feels to be underestimated, plus im a girl. 4'8 for a 20 soon to be 21 year old, however at my job, i do twice the work of some of the men. Not only did Frodo show courage and bravery, but he also did something most people now a days would never do, in the society we live in, its each man for himself, no one would care for the common good. Plus I love hobbits!! They are soo cute with thier big hairy feet.

As far as out of character.. hmm i would marry Orlando Bloom.. hes a cutie, i guess

First tell me what Lord Of The Rings CHARACTER you would marry, and your reasson why.

THEN you can tell me which one of the Lord Of The Rings ACTORS you would marry and why.

Galadriel -- she's so powerful.
No actor -- they are all so unreal.

Aragorn - He's a man's man with a heart and a strong character. And the fact that he's King doesn't hurt!! ;)

Viggo Mortensen - So long as he looks like he does in the movie!!!

I really couldn't marry someone who was a King, I'm not too keen on the PR involved with being a Queen. look how long it would take to get the heck out of Minas Tirith from the top floor.^_^

Oh com'on! Royalty isn't so bad....the PR would be difficult and the time to yourself would be few...but look at him!!!! A life of helping people and taking care of a Kingdom based on honor/love/justice would be so rewarding in itself!

I could do all of that that on a nice dapple-gray with Farimar!
