I'm voting for the Picts ..they were an acient people that lived in scotland , prior to the scots coming over form ireland. not much is know about them except they would cover themesleves in tattoos. The emperor hadiran bulit his wall to hold off attacks by the picts. Supposedly they also brewed a great beer made with heather.

the Scottish basically wiped them out.

I got interest in them after playing medieval total war, viking invasion.

I really like the Roman Republic and Empire, but I'll have to go with Ancient Israel because they were God's chosen people and because David was the greatest human king and military commander in history.

"Saul has slain his thousands, and David his tens of thousands!":D

I have to agree with you there. Seriously, how many kings and commanders do you know who would have hidden their army in a cave, catch the leader of the pursuing army with his pants down(literally! He stopped to use their cave as an outhouse!), let him go, and then still win?;)

How true. What, mainly, makes David such a great king and commander is that he was sure to bring God to the battle and trust Him to win.

The Romans

Amazing, really...

A really excellent series of historical novels would provide a great introduction.

They're written By Colleen McCullough and are called "The Masters of Rome" series. They take you from the consulates of Marius through Sulla and end with the death of J. Caesar and the accession of Augustus.

The first one is "First Man in Rome" and begins the story of Gaius Marius, the New Man...

Check them out if you're interested.

I'm about halfway through the last one.

What is your favorite ancient civilization and why? Sorry I couldn't allow more choices. You can only have a maximum of 10 choices on a poll.
I'm very fascinated with the CLASSICAL or Hellenistic Greeks. Especially the various Hellenistic empires - the Ptolemaic Egyptians - the Selucid Persians - ultimately Rome - Maccabean Israel . . . .and how Alexander pretty much single handedly changed the course of history.

Oh I LOVE those books. Excellent series. I hadn't had much interest in Rome until I started them and now I'm reading whatever I can get my hands on. Great books.

I like the Greek and Byzantine civilizations, amongst others. But with one choice I'd have to say the Romans. For how far they went in the world. The structures and systems they put in place. And the significant part they played in forming the history of other civilizations and religions. As well as for how long their civilization lasted compared to others.

Definately Ancient Rome. It's weird alot of the technology they had some 1000 plus years ago have only recent began to be used or modified. They, though they are a classic show of cockiness, show what a great civilazation can do.

the guy who put this poll up has managed to completely overlook one of the best ancient civilisations in the world - the Indian civilisation.

The "guy"?  I beg your pardon but I am a female, not a male.
