Quite interesting that most of the books are considered 'fantasy'.

Myself I like so many books but a lot of love stories...

Nicholas Sparks, Anita Shreve

Some good books I read recently are 'This Rock' by Robert Morgan and Paullina Simons' books the Bronze Horseman and Bridge to Holy Cross.

Its amazing once you become a christian how many books you can find where people find God, turn away from God or truly love God.

LOTR was far too detalied to be classed as one of my faves. Good story, but so detailed that I tended to forget where I was with the plot. bearing in mind I read it before the film, so I didn't have it in my head what was going to happen.

Faves would have to be:

James Hogg-Private Memoirs and Confesssions of A Justified Sinner (One of the strangest, yet most underratedbooks I have ever read. Astounding)

Anything by Stephen King (except Dreamcatcher)

William Golding-The Lord Of The Flies

Edgar Allen Poe-The Complete Works and Poetry

the Ender's Game quadrilogy is one of the best series of books ever published. it's science fiction but that's just the template it uses to paint a vivid world full of characters - all with faults. it is religous and spiritual and never forces ideas upon anyone - it sets them before the reader and moves on. a talent that escapes most people who write.

Still working on it. Started in high school, restarted last year. Fav book? Probably A Tale of Two Cities.
REALLY? Wow, I was rather disappointed by Dickens, and especially by this novel. It's really dull, if you ask me. (Just like Les Mis, now that we're at it. Historical novels written in the 19th century are perhaps the genre that's best suited for putting me into comatose sleep. Dull, dull, dull.)

Well, his sacrifice is very martyr-like, even if it's also triggered by a considerable lack of self-esteem. ("Ah well, I'm useless anyway, and at least you DO have a life. Goodbye.")

The whole character is such a blatant plot device that I fail to feel any compassion for him. His "uncanny resemblance" to the beloved husband, for example, serves no other purpose than to make the ending possible. And that's not what I expect from a good novel. Character traits should be character traits first and foremost, and not primarily plot devices.

Lol, yes there's nothing sexier than sacrificing yourself for others.

Les Miserables is pretty good, the book is just choked with backstory though. I would say my favorite book would be anything from Dan Abnett's Gaunt's Ghost series, especially that last one, Sabbat Martyr.

Favorite character would be Randolph Carter, who starred in a couple of Lovecraft's Dream Cycle stories, three cheers for enlightenment.
