My 2 cents:

I think in general kids are "feeling" the neglect of parents who are focused on "having it all", and they aren't getting the attention they need at home. They are deeply angry.

On top of it, they are not disciplined properly, which also causes anger (they don't know where they stand, don't have appropriate boundaries or respect for their parents, themselves, or others), because parents these days don't seem to have time, or are afraid to discipline their kids. They just want "happy times" because the time they have is so limited.

PLUS kids are lacking a moral compass, because many in our society these days (parents, schools, etc) are teaching the kids that "there is no absolute truth", "your truth is yours, and mine is mine, and that's okay". So, you know, who's to say it's "wrong" for a kid to plan to murder a teacher??

Where are our kids going to get a moral compass from if no one's spending time and energy disciplining, loving, affirming, teaching truth, etc.?:sigh:
