Pesticides affecting pregnancy and making kids more prone to psychological malfunction? Bad parenting? Early drug use? Bad home-lives? Demons?

There's a multitude of things to blame...chances are we will never actually figure out the real cause. We can only due our best to ensure our babies don't become them.

Well, for one thing, the article said this:
The target was Belle Carter, a veteran educator who teaches third-grade students with learning disabilities in a contained classroom setting, colleagues, friends and parents said. Teachers and parents at the school said Carter taught students with a range of learning disabilities, including attention deficit disorder, delayed development and hyperactivity.
Now, I am not at all saying that all children with learning disabilities are more likely to do things like that - my oldest dd has adhd - but, children with behavioral problems also could be in a class like that and there can be some who have real and serious mental issues.

It's sad :(

When I was in junior high there was a kid who put pins in a teachers drink. This kind of thing isn't exactly new. Some kids have always been messed up.

My mom taught 3rd grade back in the late 80s and had cases where kids brought knifes to school. It's really sad. I think it goes back to the kids homelife :(

Sounds to me like this plan was orchestrated with a reasonable level of sophistication.

I'd blame tv shows. The trend, as of late, is to have shows that teach you how to think like the antagonist and to give you a play-by-play illustration of how they're able to be so evil and accomplish evil things successfully.

CSI... Law & Order... Criminal Minds.... Spongebob Squarepants... these are all examples.

I agree.... man it freaks me out, I can't even watch that stuff without feeling the same way I do when I see a horror movie, and I hate horror movies....

Actually, I'm gonna retract something.

I don't blame tv shows entirely when it comes to these kids.

I blame parents who carelessly let their children WATCH these shows.

Bad parenting. Sin.

It is unbelieveable how many parents dont teach their children about respect, the value of human life, how violence should not be an option when you are angry at someone, etc.

That actually happened quite close to me so I've heard about it on the news a lot lately. Just one more reason added to my list of why I am homeschooling my children.

I don't think so...I think kids are growing up very quickly now although I know no era has ever been perfect. Actually, kids have always grown up fast (we are spending longer in college, working later, etc.) but children are allowed to think they are grown up way too early. I also think for most of history there was an element of fear which kept people in line. Fear of parents, authority, not being respectable. Now there seems to be an increase in the selfish, non contributing members of society and also more excuses to get away with deviant behavior.

Not to mention children are spending more hours away from their parents and more time hooked up to outside sources.

lack of supervision- what i mean by that is a lot of parents don't get to know their child or talk to them on a daily basis. They don't know what things their child is watching or they are modeling bad things to their child.
lack of modeling of respect- parents who are angry or don't respect others have children that see that and copy it. A lot of that is done subconiously.
