What is the Purpose of YBC?

I have read many posts by individuals that believe in an "old" universe such as the one that it obviously appears that we live in, yet propose "young biological creationism" (YBC).

I am curious how this is realistically better than straight literal-Genesis-creationism. To me, it seems that YBC is succumbing to a god-of-the-gaps mentality which attempts to captialize on elements of scientific inquiry that are still fuzzy (such as biological evolutionism) while capitulating to that which has been more positively substantiated (such as the incredible age of the universe).

What does everyone think of this?
