It's not the gaps. It's literally everything that exists.

The term refers to gaps in knowledge; the origin of the universe, if it had one, is such a gap.

There's no evidence or reasonable argument to support any of the thousands of origin myths down the years. If the universe had a beginning, it may have had a cause, but even that is speculative. To go from that to claims of omnipotent deities, cosmic monsters, oceans of chaos, or what-have-you, is imaginative fantasy.

I'm still waiting to hear how the 'God-did-it' hypothesis is better than the 'it's Magic' hypothesis (the magic hypothesis fails all the common criteria for a good explanation).

I care, and philosophy isn't garbage - in particular, science is grounded in philosophy. Some of the problems of modern science come from a disdain for philosophy; the continued uncritical clinging of many scientists to verificationism (logical positivism) and/or Popperian falsification, long after philosophers of science had revealed their flaws, is a case in point.
