Sin is anything that falls short of the Glory of God.. Even our attitudes and words can be sin.

How does one know that they fall short of God's righteous standards? Because that's what sin is.

You are actually arguing with the doctrine of imputation...

Yeah, I believe that's right...and I think it's kind of hard to accept that we are found unrighteous, sinful, and not entirely blameless before God because of what someone else (Adam) did...

...but what's important to understand is that this "someone else" (Adam) is in fact "us" (before Christ). It was "us" who sentenced Jesus to die, because we were sinful.

I know lots of people would argue..."Well, I wouldn't sentence Jesus to die...I've never been a kind of person that would do such a thing".

Unfortunately though, the truth is that as long as we wouldn't have Jesus in our lives, we would (like Peter) deny Jesus 3 times, we would (like Judas) get bought out and hand him over, and we would (like the Romans) strike the nails into the cross......although we maybe wouldn't do those exact same things, anything we would do in our lives would be in direct contrast to Jesus' life....because a life that's not with Christ is a life against Christ. That's just the way it is unfortunately.

We gotta first off believe we were sinners to also believe we are now righteous.

Thanks JF 5000 for your input!

Yeah...anything. Unfortunately, I used to sin long before I knew I was sinning. Oh well!

Why do alot of people spiritualize their salvation. "I'm being led by the Spirit".

What if that spirit is telling you to go against the written word of God? I'm not against the spiritual things by any means.

The Spirit has to jive with what is written.

Somewhere in Deut 13 it says If anyone comes and teaches you something different ignore him or better yet stone him. This also pertains to the spirit.

You better test the spirit with the word of God. If it doesn't jive then get rid of it.

Hey mpossoff...nice to meet you.

What point were you addressing there?

In your comment you were talking about the spirit telling you to do things that go against God. Not sure what you're getting at. Why would Christ, who's spirit dwells within me, lead me to do something that goes agains God?

We sin because of the habits of indwelling sin from when we were in Adam...but we are still being sanctified in Christ...that's why we aren't perfect.

You're suggesting we should somehow get rid of our current Spirit because we might still sin or because what we do doesn't jive with God's rules?

Explain some more...thanks bro!
