I've heard this claim before, but is it actually true?
i believe it to be true. I know old adventists who want cook on the Sabbath, to them its not a burden, but something they do because they love God and they think they are doing what is right.
Do you equate Jesus' statement "keep my commandments" with the concept of "keep the law?"
Very much so. In the NT we see Jesus deliberately break the mosaic numerous of times but He does not break the Sabbath commandment.
Is there a person who keeps the law?
Yes I believe so. Some people do. As someone once said to me, 'Keeping the commandments is not very hard, they are rather easy rules., but if one of the ten commandments was; thou shall not watch TV, it would be rather hard to obey the law.'
If I were to keep the law as it relates to sabbath keeping, what would I do?
I ask myself the same question. If I keep the Sabbath should not go to a restaurant on the Sabbath or should I? Should I go swimming on the Sabbath or should I? etc. How you keep the Sabbath is between you and God. There is only one commandment thou shall not work on the seventh day. Keep the Sabbath on how you feel convicted to keep it.
OK. I can accept that. And I don't want to rob you of anything that you find beautiful. I am just curious how a person would find the beauty that you see. What would he do?
I have never been asked this question. Perhaps I am niave. Maybe the Sabbath for some is a joy others it is a burden. Just like some like tennis and others basketball. But since you asked for my opinion this what I beleve.
The most important thing to remember that the Sabbath is a day of REST! Rule number one. Forget about that assesment or that major presentation you have to do on Monday. The Sabbath is for you. Forget about it. You are going to find it a burden, if all you think about is what you have to do after sabbath.
Rule number 2. Get out of the house! Staying at home all day can be incredibly boring. Sabbath will be a burden if you keep it by yourself. So church is ussally a good place to go or the beach or the park or something. When Sabbaths are longer. you cant spend 8-9 hours at home. You need to get out go for a picnic or something.
Rule number 3. Be laid back, its a joyous day. Have fun and dont be stressed out.
Thats how I believe Sabbath can be a joyous day.
