What is a 'sock puppet'?

I just spent the last half an hour reading over the post reports. Very entertaining. Better than a soap opera actually.

Almost 20 reports on Moriah alone. Good grief. Overkill, just a little, someone?

Anyhow, I had a question: What in the world is a 'sock puppet'? I saw it mentioned in regards to Howard Dean's reports and I didn't have a clue as to what that was supposed to mean.

Supposedly person B is speaking but in fact they are a "sock puppet" for person A, i.e., person A is too much of a coward to speak for himself so he acts as if it is someone else--but, we can tell who it is because we can see the IP address.

Sounds like some is going to have lots of explaining to do on the judgment day--and it won't work!

Its posted somwhere here, by staff that a sock puppet was reporting me (all no violations of course).
Can't tell you who it was a sock puppet of. But if you find the staff posts, it is posted.
The puppet is banned also.

some poor sad soul oh me oh my no brain no heart and much too shy...ooh never mind JESUS will fix you 123 i n the merry land of nanananananana....So a sock puppet it when someone causing alot of crap and comes back as another user and plays nice and makes people feel sorry for its other puppet account. I am ascared of sock puppets! they scary.
