I really enjoyed the audio book of Atlas Shrugged. I listened to it when running and it kept my mind off the run and focused on economics and the implications of robbing people through taxation.

Have you seen the movie? Part 2 was recently released.

I watched part 1, which is what moved me to get the book. The book is huge, but it really makes you think. It could convey way more than the movie could. It's not an encouraging read, to be sure, because it makes sense and seems to predict the world we are turning into. I'll still finish it, though, because it is helping me understand the philosophical differences between socialists and capitalists.

Ok, I blame you guys for mentioning ERB, I'm hooked. Any idea where I can find a complete set of the John Carter series? One volume would be great but if they are matching PBs or HCs, that'll do.

I'm presently reading Puritan Reformed Spirituality by Joel Beeke and am really enjoying it! It is presently challenging me about the Sabbath and the more I read the more I'm inclined to return to the belief in my childhood when we fully honored the Lord's Day! Yes, Christ is my Sabbath but the commandment still stands and Christ Himself rested on the 7th day. No argument, as I'm just airing my personal thoughts, trying to smooth out some wrinkles! Read it and tell me your thoughts!

As an unchosen/unelect I am not so much into books by calvinist/reformed writers.
One of the exceptions is Joni Eareckson Tada.
I recently re-read her book "When God Weeps", which touched me deeply.

Lately I've been reading Poe, Lovecraft and ERB so its time to cleanse the palate, get back into theological reading.

How do you read a theological work? Do you read straight through without stopping, take notes, write notes in the margins, write summaries or outlines?

I'm think about re-reading Bavinck through again, this would be my third time for the complete set and fifth or sixth time for certain sections. Maybe I'll re-read Gill's Complete Body of Doctrine and Divinity again.

Do you find it beneficial to re-read the same author over and over again?

Absolutely. I did that with "The life of God in the soul of man" By Henry Scougal. Next time I read it will be my fourth
Life of God in the Soul of Man - Christian Classics Ethereal Library

I'm about halfway through "Radical" by David Platt, and have his new book on the way from amazon, "Follow Me". Will be done with radical soon and starting that.

I suppose it depends upon the author. I've benefitted greatly from re-reading Sproul, Horton, Calvin, Luther, etc. I've even benfitted from re-reading Tolkein, Lewis, Louis L'Amour, Robert Aspirin, David MaCullough (sp?), Stephen Ambrose, etc.

I don't know if I would get the same benefit from re-reading Rick Warren, or Robert Schuller, etc.
