It is a good book and should come with a warning! lol That was one violent story.

gord, have you heard of the Saxon series by Tim Severin? I picked it up this morning. It looks like a nice break from reading Durham's commentary on Revelation.

Hehe yeah. His books can be pretty violent. After reading all the ASOIF books I think I am immune to violence in books though, for better or for worse, probably worse lol.

I haven't heard of that series JM. I will look into it. Thank you. I have read the 4 book Saxon series that Bernard Cornwell wrote. It is very well done as well.

The Grail series is also good too.

Language, Theology, and the Bible edited by Balentine and Barton.

James Barr is a Professor of the Hebrew Bible at Vanderbilt University, and was formerly Regius Professor of Hebrew at Oxford. This is a collection of essays in honour of his seventieth birthday by twenty-four leading figures in biblical studies and theology in Britain, North America and Europe. Barr's own work covers an enormous range, from highly detailed linguistic and textual study of the biblical languages and ancient versions, to broad issues in the interpretation of the Bible and its place in theology. The essays assembled here mirror the range of these interests, with essays on textual criticism, linguistics, biblical translation, theological themes in the Bible, and the history of biblical scholarship. There is also an evaluation of Barr's work by the editors.

Currently re-reading Pilgrim's Progress for a mens club I host at my place. We have a good time, talk scripture and church history. This meeting we are having a new believer attending so I thought Bunyan's work would be a good place to start.

World War Z for entertainment. I rarely read fiction anymore and am not big on the zombie craze, but saw this book at the airport and decided to pick it up. It's actually pretty good so far.

My son and I loved listening to the World War Z on mp3. The book was awesome.

Right now I'm reading the Moon Pool. My Kobo died the first time I was reading it and I'm just now getting back to it.

Recently finished A Tapestry of Faiths: The Common Threads Between Christianity and World Religions by Winfried Corduan and posted this brief review on Amazon:

Winfried Corduan's book is very good on many levels. His summary of original monotheism clearly shows that knowledge of one God is rooted in the most primitive cultures. He also shows how non-Christian Scripture is thought of in non-Christian faiths is distinctly different from the way that Christian Scripture is thought of in evangelical Protestantism. Further, he provides a helpful summary of the "anonymous Christian" concept developed by Karl Rahner, which (along with the thought of others) influenced the Second Vatican Council, and continues to influence Catholicism today.

Perhaps most significantly, Corduan's scholarship is solidly grounded in an evangelical faith that is evident throughout the study. He presents an unapologetic defense of the exclusivity of Christianity based on a solid understanding of the New Testament. Yet, while Corduan is fully orthodox, he suggests helpful ways in which Christians can build bridges with those of other faiths.

In summary, Corduan's book is a model of what evangelical scholarship should be -- thoroughly researched, carefully argued, and solidly grounded in the Christian faith.
