I found "Grace and Glory" in epub by Geerhardus Vos and started it tonight.

"His call is not a call to exertion, not even to exertion in holiness. It were too little to say that it is an invitation to receive; it goes farther then that. It amounts to the declaration that the consciousness of having nothing, absolutely nothing, is the certain pledge of untold enrichment."

I am reading very slowly through Knowing God by J I Packer. I just finished Evangelical is Not Enough by Thomas Howard. Being an Anglican I appreciate his take on liturgical worship. People seem to forget that the early Reformers were liturgical in their worship.

I consider myself a good reader and have read theological works for years and years now but I'm reading Vos and have to say he can be pretty hard to understand at times. I wonder how many people try to read Vos or others like him and just give up because he is so deep. I wonder if this contributes to the popularity of more speculative forms of eschatology and theology in general...any thoughts?

Good question. I know I've given up on some authors because of their writing style and their ability to communicate. Besides being a design engineer for jet engines, I fell into writing operational, assembly and maintenance manuals. (I've been writing manuals part-time nearly as long as I've been an engineer.) So I guess I know a little bit about communicating with your audience. John Piper is a good communicator. R. C. Sproul is a good communicator. John MacArthur is a good communicator. They are able to communicate their premise (whether you agree or not) in a way that people of all stages in their Christian walk can readily understand. At least, that's my opinion.

Actually, I finished reading Jesus + Nothing = Everything by Tullian Tchividjian a few weeks ago and really enjoyed his delight at discovering what the gospel really means.

I have not read that book but I'll put it on my must read list, if you are new to Christ pay special attention to the book of Romans, it's very rewarding. God bless.

Great book. Read it years ago. If I can find my copy, I plan to reread that entire series. I assume you plan to see the movie "John Carter" when it comes out in March

I just found the book series for free on Amazon and didn't know about a movie. I might see it, if I thought I wouldn't be too distracted by seeing Dejah Thoris with my eyes instead of my mere imagination. :)

Cool. I have an autographed copy of the book.
Sweet

I started Michael Horton's Christian Faith: A Systematic Theology for Pilgrims On the Way yesterday. I'm just starting to get into it. :)

Looking forward to reading your impressions of this one. I've seen a lot of good reviews.
