it's your thoughts
I never claimed they were anyone else's, like a God's or something. :) I'm just a person. So are you. I'm not going to take your opinion on the Qur'an over mine. (And don't try to equate your opinion on the Qur'an with a God's, please. You're human and fallible and could well be wrong about Islam. I, of course, think you are.)

Of course your book claims to be from God. So what? All holy books do, be it the Hindu Gitas or the Bible or the Book of Mormon. But we all know that men and women actually wrote them down, just like the Qur'an was written down by men (and IMO written BY men). Men and women make mistakes. Why should I take these men's and women's opinions over mine? No reason at all.

I'd appreciate you stopping the attempts to proselytize me. I find them offensive and irritating. :)

Thank you Innerphyre.. I second that.

I can see a genuine person in you. We all should pray to that same supplication.

I really do believe if we genuinely ask for guidance from God, He will guide us to the right path, where ever that maybe.

Hello all and Assalaamu aleykum to brothers and sisters.

What if what you have believed on earth was wrong?? All that worship was for nothing? Basically that you were on the wrong path?

I am sure so many of us are convinced on our beliefs and convictions..but what if we were mistaken? And how do you know the religion (or the lack of) you have is the CORRECT one??

I bet it doesnt worry most of you especially when most of you dont believe in Hell.

I will attemt at answering the question???
If i was wrong then there is no afterlife. i wouldnt go to heaven if i war wrong.

Now, What if YOU are wrong???
are you going to hell for not believing in GOD???

Now that is an IDEA.

If my concept of God and Hell is wrong, then i would except the punishment (if there is any) of the religion that is correct (if it exists). That is why i pray to God to show me the straight path and guidance towards Him.
But having found out how other religions have no concept of 'burning hell' (except for catholics..i think), i might have a chance of not suffering afterlife..and in the case of Hindus..i will be reincarnated (i think..apologies if got it wrong).

There is a chance I am wrong. One I'm obviously willing to take. And being an atheist, I obviously don't believe in any afterlife or gods. But I suppose if there is a God who is all-knowing and wanted me to go to heaven He would know what is necessary for me to believe in Him and, being all-powerful, would take the necessary action. But I'm not holding my breath.

I would hope it is the muslim God. If He'd throw in a case of Scotch and improve my golf swing (along with the 72 hoors) I'd go out and martyr myself forthwith!

I'm with Rae and Morningstar on this one. Of course, I'm not sure that there isn't a God. I concede that I may be wrong. But I refuse to follow any religion that I believe isn't true, and I refuse to convert to any religion out of fear. If there is a God, then surely God is smarter than this.

Doesnt Islam promises afterlife with many Virgins. Also if you die in jihad you will go to heaven and take 70 relatives with you ???

If one is martyr'd for the cause of Allah, then yes, they do go to the highestest level of heaven where they will be waited on by 72 "hoors".

If memory serves, there's 7 levels of Heaven, just as there's 7 levels of Hell in Islam.

Just wanted to point out that Christianity isn't the only one that believes in an afterlife. If you're wrong, there still could be an afterlife, and you could possibly suffer eternal damnation.

You must account for all possiblities, even:

Everyone's wrong and everyone's going to end up in a horrible place.

QUOTE]
Good way of saying eternal pleasure with females

"Hoors" is a non-gender based word for the spouses that the martyrs will take when they reach Heaven. They can be both male or female (depending on the gender of the martyr), and are virgins - pure in all senses of the word.

Sometimes research is better than tongue-in-cheek banter. With responsible scholarship, people can minimize the times they end up looking foolish.

Salaam all,

last time i checked, Allah will forgive what He chooses to. the only thing that is stated that He will not forgive is associating other Gods with Allah.

well.. i'm set, then. i don't have any God besides Allah... of course, by the same token, Allah is not above any God either... in our view, Gods are, by and large, equal.. which is one of the reasons why they aren't venerated or propriated in the Buddha Dharma.

as it turns out..i asked myself this question some 20 odd years ago now... and, to my great surprise, i turned out to be wrong in my initial religous path... which was the Protestant Christian path. from there, i went to Islam.. my personal history would tie all of these things together... but.. that's for another time.

in any event.. i suppose that God or god or what have you, convinced me that i was "wrong" about both of those paths... at which point, my spiritual pursuit became something of a quest... perhaps even to a negative sense that i would neglect other duties of mine to discuss religion and to practice. after many moons of searching, i've found a religous praxis that doesn't seem "wrong" and i've put it into practice.

that.. and the wonderful challenge to the seeker to test the Buddhas teachings for themselves to see if they are correct... if they aren't don't practice them.. if they are, then uphold them and live up to them.

my experiments have been successful with the teachings that i've tested thus far, and as such, i will continue.

Well Every Religion other than Christianity they believe good moral people will either goto heaven or come back as something nicer or just die and thats it correct ? But the Bible teaches thaT ONLY WHO GO THROUGH JESUS GOTO HEAVEN AND NO ONE ELSE RIGHT? So either way realistcally Christians are 100% either way right? if we are right , we goto heaven but a lot dont, but if we are wrong , because of the moral ways and beliefs in most other religions we will be ok any way

Wow...that is a LOT of people losing all spiritual good and (persumably) going to hell.

Wow around 5 billion of us are damned according to Quran.

I appreiate your efford, but there is nothing, and I mean NOTHING in the Quran that you can quote that can make me even consider switching my religion to Islam.

To me, the most sense in everything that I have read out of religions, Buddhism made the most sense - and still does. (although I am still learning about Buddhism, I see it far more as the ultimate philosophy of life rather than religion - just a personal view)
