Okay, this is similar to threads that previously existed...

What do you know now that you didn't know...say...20 years ago?

Where to begin? First office computer, 1984. First home computer, 1990. The first time I said to someone, or they to me, "Fax me/I will fax you, a copy of that." First email. First cell phone, belonged to my org. First and only pager. All 1992. Oakland Naval Supply Station, CA. More than 20 years but first color TV, my Christmas present to me, just before I went to Viet Nam, Dec 1967.

I was saved 22 years ago. In the last 20 years, I've learned that progress in my Christian maturity is a process, that it doesn't happen all at once. Sometimes that progress can only be measured in looking back.

I've learned that God truly can break the chains from our past and that He really does give wisdom to us when we ask.

I've learned that you should always end a conversation with someone close to you with 'I love you' so that the last words they may hear from your are never ones you'll regret.

And I've learned that the only things you can take with you when you die are love and relationships.

Ruth

(ps...I have to confess I'm 45, not over 50, but there weren't any specific forums for that age - they went from 30's and then jumped to the 50's. I figured being a grandmother helped me qualify for this forum!)

In Calculus we used a slide ruler, I don't think you can even find a new one of those, you need to check out the used thrift shops for one of those gems. Imagine doing long division by hand. We did.
Imagine only three tv stations, the choices were better in those days with three than what we have now with hundreds of choices.
In those days life seemed more hopeful than it is now, a fight in high school meant fist fight, no guns or knives. So it goes. Gas was only 18.9 cents a gallon.

20 years ago, I did not imagine that I could be deceived by the cares of this world, the lust of the flesh or the pride of life.

I thought I was better than the Apostle Peter with his bold statements to the Lord.

I used to think that I was immune to theological error.

20 years ago, even as a tenderhearted and willing believer, I was well on my way to blaming everyone else for my failures.

I count all of my mistakes as loss, but like Paul said: "I press on toward the goal unto the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus."

That is just a few ;)

20 years ago I had not been humbled before the Lord to a place where I knew that I could do nothing in myself. Now I have been there and know that we must all get to that place in order to REALLY let ( allow ) Him to work in our lives.

God Bless,

Sweet

I have learned that even grown boys are from Jupiter because they make no sense to me, and they must obviously have some form of cooties there cuz my husband can dirve me bonkers. Then I turn around and I fall in love all over again. Cooties must infect the brain.

I have also learned that I do not have all the answers. Faith is not an invisble thing. That God has always been with me through the troubles of my life. And, that my children are a blessing from God.

around 20 years ago i was 'truly' called and converted
as opposed to a few years earlier being swindled into
believeing that i was saved, by a slick 'big city'
evangelist. i have since learned that i must bear
'Spiritual Fruit' and not live as those that bear
fleshly fruit in the world.
coupling patience with contentment is a lesson
that the Lord has continually taught me.
i have learned that 'believing' has to be coupled
with action because i know now that my gift of
Faith is dead without works.
i have also learned that overcoming is a 'daily'
process but with the help of a strong relationship
with or Lord, i can truly do 'all' things.

I have learned not to be so judgemental of the younger folk, just because they have nose rings, eyebrow rings etc. Some of these younger kids have a real zeal for the Word of God, and could put me to shame as far as knowing scripture and verse

. This is a new generation that has been raised up for the last days, and alot of them are on fire for the Lord.

I have also learned to put every circumstance in the Lords hands without worrying to much. He has brought my family through some tough times, and always shows up right when we need Him
