And also, could someone explain what all the hoo-hah to do with Ben Stein is all about anyways? I mean, who is he other than a comedian? What credentials does he have to make him the FotM spokesperson for creationists? I lol everytime someone says, "But Ben Stein says..." . Meh.

Was he ever considered a comedian? He was a speech writer and moved onto film and then got a TV trivia show

I dunno. Maybe I have accidently given the man too much credit for being a comedian. Anyway, my point still stand.

Who is Ben Stein to be creationists Fotm? Someone answer please?

It's JUST as bad as Kirk Cameron being the FotM like, last year. /wrists

Thanks for the info. Now I know more about Ben Stein than I ever cared to. But perhaps I'm still missing the connection here. I don't understand how any of this makes him a credible spokesperson for creationism. /shrug. I'm sorry I asked.

Creationists tend to lend credence to anyone who tells them what they want to hear. It's nothing to do with credentials or valid arguments, it's all about what side the person is on and how loud he is.

The creationist/ID movement is a perfect example of confirmation bias gone wild.

Peter :)

Also I was going to add - the fact that he's a 'celebrity' or at least a well-known movie personality. Proponents of creationism are unbelievably giddy, because they see this as a great way to gain more attention by the general populace.

Also I posted these video segments partly because of the pure irony in their statements toward science. I'll admit I normally get a kick out of creationist arguments for their entertainment and comedic value, but the unbelievable ignorance displayed by Stein started to get to me. Is it even intentional, or is he really that deluded? I have yet to see any clips of him actually facing criticism in person.

Being a comedian would make him overqualified as a creationist spokesman. ;)

I think what gives him the most credence in the average Joe Blo's eyes is that he seemed super-educated in Win Ben Stein's Money - if I remember correctly, the way you won Ben Stein's money was if you knew more factoids than he did. Which was hard to do. To the public, factoid knowledge = wisdom, I guess. Also, that droll sense of humor and monotone voice makes him seem egg-headish.

Very, very sad that this counts as a biology degree in the masses' eyes.
