Kristen, you are doing the same exact thing that caused the problem to be ignored in the first place. The conflicker(sic) text was not an ad. It was masquerading as an addendum to a real ad. The advertiser would have had nothing to do with it, and could probably have done nothing about it.

You and others are so focussed on the rule that you failed to distinguish between an ad and a hack that members tried to tell CF Admin about.

It has been brought to my attention that some members are having difficulty getting into CF for the since about Midnight Eastern time. Our owner is working on this as I write this. Hopefully it will be resolved quickly, but just to let you know this is currently creating difficulty for some members, while others are able to get in without problems.
I haven't logged off CF since yesterday [Saturday], but that day I and a lot of others could only log in by going to a thread, hit reply to thread, then log in on the large log-in box....not the small upper right one. I put that up often on the Chat Board and those that saw it could eventually log in.

Has that problem been fixed? Thanks

I believe this is part of the same access issues they are working on, but I will pass this post on as it might help them see something as they are working on it.

and now for some light CHAT-Humor :) : " For those having trouble logging in....go to a thread, hit reply to thread, then log in using the large log-in box. If that doesn't work, tough luck."

Another thing: PLEASE
1. Run an AVG anti-virus Scan on your computer, like twice daily.
and
2. Clear-out all computer-cookies then; and
then do not allow any site to set more cookies. why? well you may ask.

Why would you wanna find "79+ infections" on your machine??

in regards to the confiker virus ad...

i have been on the site everyday for the past 2 months...usually for over 8 hours at a time. i noticed the confiker ad the first day it showed up at about 6am, and i removed it as soon as i could. it was prob only there until about 9-10am. i would have taken the ads down sooner, but did not know how the hacker got in and i didnt want to notify him that i was there to start closing the security hole as i didnt know where it was at the time.

so as i searched the site and admin logs and as i worked w/ the server admins to figure this out, i left it there so that more possible damage wouldnt be done. my apologies for not taking it down sooner.

please know that if there is an offensive ad, my pm box is open. most of the time i am able to locate it and get rid of it, but as Kristen.NewCreation said...if you give me a link it is easier to get rid of...

Then why on earth didn't you respond to people's concerns about that very text addition - and please stop calling it an 'ad', because it was not a legitimate ad. Why did you let your admins and mods respond to people bringing attention to the conficker text with dismissive replies and no admission that the thing was indeed a hack? A thread on it was closed in E&M. A thread was created about it in QaCF, and PMs were exchanged to an Admin as a part of that thread. Did you leave your Admins in the dark as well? Or did you tell them to obfuscate with members who were trying to warn about the conficker pseudo ad?

Also, I for one am not likely to click on something that may be a malware link just so I can send you the url. That isn't even sensible.

You do not have to click on the link to follow it. right click, and go copy link address. It goes to your clipboard. For a picture ad, then right click on it, go properties, then copy Image Address.

Also, please remember that CF is a huge board - the magnatude of it is amazing. Not everything can be handled instantly - things take time.

And some things take very little time at all - like keeping your unpaid staff and your membership informed about threats to financial arrangements and personal contact info.

As for right-clicking being safe, you're probably right, but as it wasn't an ad, which i keep repeating uselessly it seems, reporting it as a 'bad ad' isn't useful.

Its over now. Dont worry about it. Its not coming back - so why make such a huge issue of it? Yes, it was a problem. And now it is fixed.

Unless I allow yahooapis through my NoScript, I can't post. It tells me my post is too short and to make it more than 1 character. This is new, since it wasn't happening before the upgrade.

I mentioned this earlier but didn't see a reply, so can someone confirm if backups will be done on a more regular basis? Having to roll back to a save that is more than two weeks old seems much more disruptive than necessary.

It isn't over. many are still experiencing log-in problems. The site comes and goes.

I worry about the security of my information - don't you?

What makes you think 'it' or some other serious problem isn't coming back? This was not a reassuring experience. There are serious communication and trust issues.

I'm not 'making a huge issue'. It is a huge issue, for a number of reasons. That you don't see that is not my concern ATM.

Fixed? Some of it is.

Yep it's over!
But I hope it's not the way CF will handle things in future!
This Glitch maybe over, but the fact still remains that members here may have had their accounts hacked and their paypal details have been compromised.
This is an issue that has to be re- adressed when it comes to the security of those paying out of their bank accounts etc, and not having someone getting access to those accounts.
Identity theft is a major issue and those that think that it is all over have a lot to learn when bills come to their door that had nothing to do with them and was hacked because others did not take the threat seriously.

I agree that CF should take this seriously and members should not be led like lambs to the slaughter next time it happens.
