I think I am getting primates and mammals mixed up. Let me see if I have my time line right. Pangaea began to break up around 200 million years ago. Dinosaurs became extinct around 65 million years ago. The oldest mammal goes back 160 million years and the oldest primate goes back 55 million years.Cats and primates aren't the same thing.
Science sees the break up of Pangaea as a product of plate technotics. Creationists believe there is a reason why this happened and we are still feeling the effects of this today. When I was growing up people thought the earth was very stable. Today with all the earthquakes and storms people do not see the earth as being stable at all.
The point is that every extinction is followed by a population explosion that is refereed to as a radiation. Here we are looking at one species Neanderthals going extinct and our species Homo Sepian thriving and increasing to the point where they filled the earth. As the Genesis 1:28 says: "God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground."
In order for one to increase the other species seems to have to decrease in order to maintain a balanced biodiverse eco system.
